In the last 40 years Larry Norman was one of the most influential and remarkable pioneers of christian rock music of our time. He was edgy and straight, never running with the stream, no advocate of the Status Quo, but someone who calls in the desert, whether you like hearing it or not. A society prophet, always trying to wake the church out of its slumber of security and to breathe passion and a radical lifestyle into it, that would allow her to stand strong in a secularized and God-distanced society. Contrary to many colleagues, he never gained wealth or positions in the church or music industry on the way; his life was rather tough and lonesome at many times. But that makes him even more a role model - a devoted Christian and remarkably talented artist - even in his last years, overshadowed by age and sickness. His witness and career have influenced or changed the lives of then thousands of Christian musicians all over the the world. We will miss him ...

Larry Norman war in den letzten 40 Jahren einer der einflußreichsten und bemerkenswertesten Pioniere christlicher Rockmusik unserer Zeit. Er war eckig und kantig, niemals angepasst, kein Vertreter des Status Quo, sondern ein unbequemer Rufer in der Wüste. Ein Gesellschaftsprophet, immer darum bemüht, die Kirche aus ihrem Dornröschenschlaf zu wecken und ihre eine Radikalität und Leidenschaft einzuhauchen, die sie dazu tauglich macht, einer säkularisierten und gottesfernen Gesellschaft die Stirn zu bieten. Im Gegensatz zu anderen Kollegen kam er dabei nie zu Wohlstand oder zu profilierten Positionen in Gremien der Kirche oder christlichen Musikindustrie; sein Weg blieb bis zum Ende steinig und schwer und nicht selten einsam. Aber sein Vorbild als Künstler und glaubwürdiger Christ - auch noch zuletzt, von Alter und Krankheit gezeichnet - hat das Leben von zehntausenden namhaften wie namenlosen christlichen Musikern bereichert oder sogar umgekrempelt. Wir werden ihn vermissen.
