Hey there, QuizFest girls!

By now, you’ve probably heard the smash song “Whatcha Say” by hot new star, Jason DeRulo! Jason’s song is currently at number four on the Billboard charts! QuizFest snagged an interview with this hunky heartthrob, and Jason gave us all the juicy details about his song, his Madonna obsession and his ultimate—and delicious—dream date!

QF: When did you first get into music?

Jason: I started when I was about four or five years old. I was a real big Michael Jackson fan. I would sit in front of the TV and sing and dance to his songs and try to do all the moves. I had the glove and everything! My mom noticed that I had a love for music because I was practicing every day for weeks at a time instead of going outside and playing with my friends. She put me into a school where I learned classical and jazz music.  I did ballet, tap and hip-hop dance, too!

QF: When did you really start to get noticed in the business?

J: When I was 16 years old, I started writing for people like P. Diddy, Lil’ Wayne and Sean Kingston. Then a record producer noticed me from my songwriting and paid to fly me out to Los Angeles. I didn’t leave without signing a deal! For the past eight months, I’ve been recording my album. I’m really excited for everyone to hear the rest of the songs because “Whatcha Say” is just an appetizer to the main course.

QF: Cool! Do you know when the album is coming out?

J: Beginning of the year. It’s going to be called
Jason DeRulo.

QF: Nice title! What artist would you love to collaborate with?

J: Madonna. I would love to do a collaboration with her. I grew up listening to her because my mom was such a huge Madonna fan.

QF: What advice do you have for readers who want to follow in your footsteps?

J: Hard work is key. Hard work is about 97% of success, and the other 3% is luck. The harder you work, the luckier you get. I really believe that.

QF: Great advice! We hear you just finished an MTV movie recently. How did that go?

J:  Good! The movie is called Turn the Beat Around, and it’s a dance movie. I play myself. The characters try to become Jason DeRulo’s dancers. I’m going to be dancing and singing in it. It comes out at the beginning of 2010, right in time for the album.

QF: Awesome! Now we have to know: What’s the first thing you notice about a girl?

J: Her smile and teeth.

QF: What’s your ideal first date?

J: Breakfast. A lot of people do dinner, but I’m a breakfast kind of guy.

QF: What should a girl wear on your IHOP date?

J: She should dress as if we were going to dinner. When you look good, you feel good.

QF: You would dress up, too?

J: Absolutely!

What do you think, QuizFest readers? Would you go on a breakfast date with Jason?

XOXO,

Intern Jen
