Local talent shines on the Mic.
Dominic Crane from Erdington, Birmingham has been given the big thumbs up by judges at the Open Mic UK auditions. Along with the other most impressive acts, Dominic has made it through to the Regional Finals and will now be performing at the live stages of Open Mic UK 2009.
Open Mic UK 2009 is the exciting new national talent competition which searches for the UK’s best singers, singer/songwriters, rappers and vocalists of all genres who perform either covers or original material. One contestant who has evidently caught the judge’s eye is local talent Dominic Crane, now competing for a place in the National Final and the chance to grab a break through recording contract. Over 10, 000 hopefuls entered nationwide and hundreds of auditionees queued patiently on the day for their turn to impress the judges. But it was guitarist and singer/songwriter Dominic, accompanied by Harry Boylan on Harmonica who wowed the panel and has now been given an opportunity to prove that he is the best on the Mic in the region. Those who made it through the audition stage will now take part in a live head to head battle in front of hundreds of audience members and a professional judging panel to win a place at the National Grand Final. Chris Grayston, head of A&R at Future Music, comments "We are searching for an original act that has the live ability to impress an audience of over two thousand alongside a number of industry judges and A&R associates, as well as the potential to become professional recording artists." The competition is divided into three age categories; under 18, 18-24 and 25 and over; all types of singers, vocal performers, groups and acoustic singer/songwriters are invited to enter Open Mic UK. The successful competitors are now set to perform live at the Regional Final, which takes place at 8.00pm on Saturday 3rd of October at The Assembly, Spencer Street, Leamington Spa and will showcase the best talent from their area. The prize for the overall winning act of Open Mic UK 2009 will be to record their own album in professional studios with an industry vocal specialist, with the potential of large investment for a single release as well as the aim to nationally chart. The winners will additionally have the opportunity to tour across the UK. Also at the Live shows will be newly crowned Live and Unsigned winner Rhea performing her new single. A blend of commercial pop and hard edge RnB, Rhea has catapulted into the spotlight since taking away the top spot. Currently touring the UK, Rhea’s style is confidently distinct and her on stage presence cannot be ignored.
The winners will be thrust into the media spotlight through television, radio and the press and all winners will be invited on the Open Mic UK Tour, which boasts 100 gigs across the country.
