Well the fist Slide Sessions was a blast, despite the snow. Because I know Beaucoup Blue pretty well, we ended up doing most of the gig together. Their new CD will be out very soon, so they shared some songs from that including "My America" and also the song we wrote together "Ain't No Good." I realized later that I should include a section on what gear everyone uses, what types of slides, what pickups or electronics, etc. David Mowry just got a Fishman Aura as an early Christmas present, but he hasn't really experimented with it too much just yet.
I started this monthly series to highlight all the great slide players I know and hopefully start a bit of a scene for slide in NYC. I also want to be inspired and get a little kick in the pants. I just love being surrounded by people who play way better than me, putting myself in the position to really grow and get better. I don't play solo slide that often, but it's something I want to do more of. I have this image in my head that I want to be like some combination of Jerry Douglas, Allison Krauss and Bonnie Raitt rolled into one singing, curly-haired Dobro player. Yahoo! Wouldn't it be fun to get Jerry or Bonnie to play the Slide Sessions? :)
