hey, this is different, like your version. I would try it without the chorus rapping the lyrics,maybe a  single voice rapp  followed by a singing whisper chorus.

The multiple vocals are a bad idea.  It's nonsensical to hear everybody agree that "Jesus was a sailor".  "Poetry" is the voice of an individual.  Not a tribe.  The original lyric as sung by Cohen is a talk between man and god.  ..
....Thusly, this version has trivialized one of the most gallant lyrics of modern times.  This is no way to honor the unique songwriting skills of Cohen.....
....PS...i'm a huge fan of your grandfather's artwork...the great Al Hansen...

Deadpan, sober-circus sound is good.  Reminds of M. Ward's take on Buddy Holly's "Rave On."  Slow down creates space for added musical color.  Nice!  And, always a fan of Beck (has my same b-day)!
