I know most people are fleeing the Myspace Titanic but they still have a much better blogging system than Facebook so I'm keeping that here.
I love traveling!
A couple weekends ago I got to go to Crater Lake for the first time. We left immediately after work on Thursday and rolled into the park at midnight. Even in the dark we could see it was so majestic and breathtaking. The stars were gorgeous and the moon set just off the side of the lake as we drank wine and set off sparklers to celebrate our 4th of July Road trip. The next morning we woke up and drove around it. Everything about it was picturesque and it was so quiet and peaceful. Except for the hoardes of mosquitoes. Those were lame. There were literally clouds of them that settled upon us like locusts on a crop. But even they couldn't take away the beauty of Crater Lake. I encourage anyone to go who hasn't gone and lives in Oregon. It's the prettiest thing I have seen so far in this ruggedly handsome state, and that is saying a lot. I felt like Crater Lake should be in Montana or Wyoming or some place where all there is is souped up wilderness and no people for miles.
After a morning of enjoying one of America's most beautiful natural landmarks we set out for Bolinas Beach in California. That was also a blast. A tiny hippy beach town where no one leashes there dogs and the bartender freely admist to being completely baked, Charlie, Phil and I agreed that this town is what Portland is going for but never quite gets right. There is an uber hippie vibe but it feels really genuine. There are hand painted signs asking people to clean up after themselves and even directing where graffiti should go and the coolest part is that people actually follow them. We saw an old man dancing with a chair and a woods women walking the streets. Also a drunken bum called me the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. The picture below is Charlie sleeping on the beach when we finally found him the morning. LOL!
Then went to San Francisco and walked through the epic Fillmore Street Jazz Festival which was literally like Saturday Markey x10. Then we chilled in Haight-Ashbury where Charlie got asked to pose for an art project and also got cornered by a bum aggresively offering him a soda. Then we booked it to Fisherman's Wharf where we saw a fantastic fireworks show at Pier 39 over Alcatraz. I can't believe we brought the dogs and they survived! It was super crowded and loud but they managed to keep in together.
After spending the night in the car in the parking lot of a Bank just across the Golden Gate bridge after the fireworks we woke up and drove straight to Redwood National Forest. We got to walk amongst ginormous trees
that you can't even see the tops too just outside Crescent City. The trees are soo big, I can't even describe. I felt like I was walking in Jurassic Park too becuase of all the giant deep green foliage.
Then we booked it home and made it back at just before midnight on Sunday.
And now I will be leaving for another solid adventure in the South of France! At this moment I feel like this is all I want out of life... to see new amazing places and meet new people. But then again there are bills to pay. Bahh!
