Ottawa's Brothers Chaffey gave last night's party a dandy kick-off with their countrified rock on the Rogers stage. Backed by their three-piece band, Matthew and Curtis Chaffey dipped heavily into their upcoming album for Hard Luck Guy and other tunes. They also honoured the late Bo Diddley with a driving version of his tune Mona.
The duo is a favourite with the young ladies, several of whom huddled at the front of the stage while others, sporting cowboy hats and boots, struck magazine-ad poses in the crowds.
The Brothers Chaffey are at their best when they are playing heavily accented, danceable tunes about love lost, love found and wrecks on the highway -- the old themes of country music, in other words.
