Hey fellow foxes and gents :)

It’s your new TAB coordinators, Nicole and Annie!!
We’re here lettin’ you know what you either missed out on (dorks..just kidding) or would love to hear again(..dorks. JUST KIDDING!) from our last TAB meeting.
Somewhere around 18 teens attended our last meeting on Monday, June 29th. The enchiladas, rice, and beans from Issy’s were AMAZING.

We started the party off with a BANG! by asking everybody what they were currently reading or planned on reading this summer for our ICE BREAKER. We got tons of responses, but our coolest book was by far The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. Our very own Brandi Bette recommended this to us, saying it was creepy and tense, a perfect summer book. Check it out!!

Next, we had the TAB Meeting Awards. These prizes, which consist of delicious candy bars, are awarded to teens who have attended at least five meetings out of the past 6. The winners were Michelle, Celena, Rachel, Michael, Madison, Kim, Nikki, Elaine and two others but we can’t remember who they are (sorry). Congrats to you all!

And of course, our new coordinators were introduced: Nicole Pruitt and Annie Curione! We can’t wait to get this library up and kickin’(not that it isn't already of course!)

Here’s a recap on RECENT EVENTS:
1. TEEN SUMMER READING PROGRAM: Keep turning in your Bingo sheets, kids. If you have no idea what we’re talking about, go to the library and sign up already! The Summer Reading Program is cool this year with way better prizes, the biggest ones being: $50 to Sunvalley Mall, $30 to Century 14 Theatres, and a sweet looking Skateboard Deck!
2. FINALS CAFÉ was on June 1st, from 6-8:30 PM. It was a hit with 25 people attending! Plus, the hot cocoa, coffee, tea, and brain (JUNK) food were all delicious. Forget studying ;).
3. TEEN VOLUNTEER PIZZA PARTY was on June 9th, from 12 to 2 PM. This was a way for the library to thank us for all of our hard work over the last year. Twenty-eight people attended, including a variety of volunteers and library friends. There was so much food; we took up three full huge tables! And we got our Teen Volunteer T-shirts with Celena Tan’s amazing, winning design!
4. 48-HOUR MINI FILM CONTEST was during the weekend of June 12th through the 14th. 8 films were entered with 35 participants!
5. 48-HOUR MINI FILM FESTIVAL took place on Saturday, June 20th at 6 PM. It was a total hit with 65 people of all ages who came to watch!
6. TEEN BOOK CLUB: The last meeting was on Monday, June 15th. Ten teens attended after finishing ‘Pool Boy’ by Michael Simmons.
7. BENICIA HISTORICAL SOCIETY: The Benicia Historical Society also had an Ice Cream Social at the Fisher-Hanlon House on June 4. Rachel, Neda, and Celena were kind enough to volunteer - thanks ladies, it sounded like fun!
8. RELAY FOR LIFE: Finally, Benicia’s first Relay for Life was May 30th through the 31st. It was huge for a "baby" relay and all together about $100,000 was raised to fight cancer. Teens who attended said the event was a fun way to just hang out and meet new people while supporting a great cause. If you are interested in being on the Library’s team next year, contact Brandi Bette @ 746.4345.

Now get ready for these amazing UPCOMING EVENTS!
***Twilight: Movie & Costume Contest: C’mon, guys. No duh everybody is coming to this!! It’s taking place on Friday, July 10th from 6-8:30 PM and is going to be a night of seriously crazy fun. Come dressed as your favorite sci-fi, fantasy or Twilight character!! Your costumes will be judged at the end of the movie. We need some more suggestions for the snacks that you guys want, too. Please send those in ASAP! So far we’ve gotten ideas like gummi bears and Red Vines. What d’you think?

....

***TEEN BOOK CLUB: Our next Teen Book Club is coming up on Monday, July 13th from 6-7PM. We’ll be reading Sandpiper by Ellen Wittlinger. There are still copies available at the Information Desk.

....

***MOONLIGHT INDEPENDENT YOUTH FILM CONTEST: It’s here again and we can’t wait!! The deadline for entries is August 24th at 9PM. Get your entry forms at the Ref Desk or download them online. ....

 ....

***TEEN SUMMER READING PROGRAM: Also don’t forget the Summer Reading Raffle on August 31st. You still have plenty of time to earn prizes for completing BINGOs! ....

 ....

***MOONLIGHT FILM FESTIVAL is on September 12 (starting at 2PM.) We need volunteers for set-up on September 11 - it would be super if we could have about 10 teen volunteers help out from 4-6PM. Please let Brandi Bette know if you want to help out. (Give her a call or send her an email.) We will also need help during the Festival on Saturday. There will be three different shifts during the actual festival. We also need ideas on how to serve food at the festival. Since giving everyone an individual bag at the door led to unwanted food being thrown away, we need a different solution! We are hoping to put some volunteers in the Edna Clyne room to serve food as an alternative.

..well, that was long. So that we don’t take up any more of your time, we just wanna say it was cool getting our first letter out to you kids and we hope to meet to you all eventually! And feel free to throw in any ideas for future events!
Ta ta,
Nicole Pruitt & Annie Curione
