............
Hello there super cool teens
of the library! =) ....
It's Annie and Nicole here
spicin' it up.......
....
So to talk a bit about our
last TAB meeting on July 27, it was a little small... (only 12 people
came) where is everybody huh!? Although
it was a small group, we still had a great time and enjoyed some delicious
pizza from Mountain Mikes! (Thanks for the great discount Mountain Mike’s!) For
our ICEBREAKER, we asked everyone what books they were reading and also what
their favorite summer pastime was. Some of the books that our teens were
reading included The Afterlife, Joy Luck Club, The Outsiders, and The Chinese
Seamstress. As for favorite summer pastimes, some popular answers were tanning,
traveling, camping, and planning weddings (we're an eclectic group!)....
....
Also, if you RSVP for our
TAB meetings, it would really help us out. Plus, doing so will get you dibs to
on the food! ;)....
....
RECENT EVENTS:....
....
1. Our TEEN SUMMER READING
PROGRAM is coming to an end but you still have time to turn in those BINGO
sheets! If you haven't already, you should sign up soon. You don't want to miss
the $10 weekly drawings for places like Rrags, Hollywood Video and Bookshop
Benicia! And for every BINGO you turn in, you enter a chance to win the grand
prize raffle: a skateboard deck from Wheels in Motion, a $30 gift card to
Century 14 Theaters or $50 to the Sunvalley Mall! You have until August 31 to
enter the last raffle.....
....
2. We had our monthly TEEN
BOOK CLUB on Monday, July 13. Only four people showed up to TBC; bummer :(....
....
3. And our most recent event
was, of course, the TWILIGHT TEEN MOVIE NIGHT!! It was so much fun to have a
big group of people [about 40 showed up] just lay around and enjoy the movie.
We also had super spiffy vampire fangs available for anyone who was in a
vampire mood! muahaha. At the end of the movie, we had a costume contest for
those who dressed up. We would love to get more people to dress up for our
theme movies in the future. (How can we get more people to dress up? Any
ideas??)....
....
UPCOMING EVENTS:....
....
1. Our next TEEN BOOK CLUB
is on Monday, August 17, from 6-7 PM. We’ll be discussing Shattering Glass, a
great book about a total geek turned popular with an evil side. You still have
2 weeks to read the book, if you want! Come to the Service Desk at the Library
to check it out and to sign up!....
....
2. The deadline for our
MOONLIGHT FILM CONTEST FOR YOUTH is also coming up. That date will be August 24
at 9 PM. Applications are still available at the Service Desk. We encourage all
of you to show us your talents and have some fun by creating your very own
film!....
....
FUTURE EVENTS: ....
....
1. The final raffle for our
TEEN SUMMER READING PROGRAM will be on August 31.....
....
2. Also, our big event...our
9th ANNUAL MOONLIGHT FILM FESTVIAL will be on September 12 starting
at 2 PM!! We need lots of volunteers. We need Film Festival Judges, which will
include 3 teens and 3 adults. We need volunteers for set up the day before the
event on September 11 from 4 until about 6PM. Lastly, we need many lovely
volunteers for the day of the event which is September 12 including teens to
help clean up! Keep in mind that there will be three shifts that you can choose
from for that day. We will have them posted as soon as we figure them out! The
festival starts at 2 pm and we will get back to you on the exact times for the
shifts. ....

Let us know if you are
thinking about volunteering!! =)....
....
A few words from Brandi
Bette during the meeting:....
....
For those of you that didn't
show, Brandi Bette thanked everyone who provided titles of books to buy at
Barnes and Noble. Thanks to everyone's help, she spent almost the whole $1000
on new books for the Teen Zone!....
....
She also brought up a
suggestion for a possible event revolving around Post Secret. The idea of the
event is decorate postcards with personal art and stuff and then to post our
darkest secrets on them. We are hoping to trade Benicia teen secrets with
another Bay Area library to keep those secrets confidential. Good idea ehh? =)
(we think it sounds like crazy fun, and our opinions are pretty much the best
(jk!), so you better support this.)....
....
One more announcement about
volunteering:....
....
Volunteering for the fall is
limited to teens who have volunteered in the past. There will be only 7-8
people per shift so sign up quickly! Applications are available at the
reference desk. Fall shifts will start August 17, 18 and 19, the first week of
school.....
....
In November, there will be
no special event since Brandi Bette is expecting a future teenager that month!
(very exciting =]). Since she is due two days before book club that month
(gasp!), we aren't sure if she'll be able to make it. She probably won’t be at
TAB either.....
....
In December, we will be
holding the Finals Cafe and our TAB meeting (hopefully with Brandi Bette and
her baby =]). And of course there will be the oh-so-fun overnight event!
Allison is still trying to figure out the chaperones for this too. ....
....
Well that’s all for now
folks! If you have any suggestions or opinions about anything, please let us
know; ideas are very welcome! ....
