NOT ACCEPTING FRIEND REQUESTS ANYMORE
Dear everyone
This is a message to ask you NOT to send friend requests anymore, as i won’t be checking them from today onwards (4th june 2009).
Looking after this myspace page for the past couple of years has been a very mixed experience : while it’s been great to receive supportive messages and comments from you all and feel that my music is listened to, it’s also been a constant drag to spend hours and hours sorting out the real requests from the ones by people who obviously have no clue as to why they’re submitting that friend request, with the paradoxical result that i end up checking out the profiles of dubious people more often than those of people who really want the friendship.
So sadly, while i’m still trying to check out some of the profiles of the people who send friend requests, the situation has just become more and more ridiculous : even my so-called top friends are not even people i know (my account was hacked once and the top friends came out randomly, and i can’t even do a search among my « friends » because i have too many and the search function is disabled).
I also have to spend time deleting the occasional spam or blatantly out-of-place video on the comments page, and i have to waste time reading messages from companies trying to promote « unsigned artists » (so much for being on a label since 2003…).
Even worse than that, myspace in general is becoming increasingly cluttered with plain stupid or offensive items, as well as adverts i’m just tired of seeing every time i log into my account : the endless video (at least that’s what we have in France, not sure about other countries) of the girl or boy with an unbearable « i-want-to-slap-his/her-face » look searching for a partner « in their area », the so-called « cool new videos » which two days ago featured someone with a huge tumour on their face (how cool is that), or even adverts for cushions from a mail order company from which i did buy cushions about a year ago…
Deleting this page entirely would be the most coherent thing to do, but if i do delete my account, the problem i had BEFORE having an account will reappear : someone will use my name and you’ll be sending messages to him or her and not me…
To end on a positive note and an alternative to myspace :
- you can send messages to me on my email account on my regular website
if you really believe that i could like your music then just send me a link to what you do and i will do my very best to listen to it at some point
- you can listen to ALL my songs in the « sounds » section of the same website
Last but not least, i DO love receiving enthusiastic messages about my music and it does mean a lot to me. So all this ranting is not about the people that really care about music, it’s about trying to find them again amidst the mass of stuff that has nothing to do with love of music !
All the best from here
