Wednesday, December 13, 2006
So many of you have so many requests that involve me having to do work building websites, running to the post office, or just re-arranging my social calender. So many requests I could fill my days! Well, I finally worked out a way to appease all you folks who don't read my super cool blogs and ask for stuff anyway. Just find this here site and all will be taken care of!
http://www.zombo.com/
So, the Flan thing. What a disaster. um... that it COULD have been, I mean. Now, I don't know how to arrange and organize conventions, but since the thing was cancelled, I see no reason not to be refunded. Not the airline tix, but there was no con! I sure hope you folks saved your receipts. A good rule of thumb for how long you should spend ensuring the safe return of your hard earned wages? Take the amount spent on con ticket, divide by how many hours it took you to earn it, then square that number based on principal. Don't be afraid to be versed in legalese, be sure to save all co-respondence, always be civil and polite, and don't shoot till you see the whites of their eyes.
Saw some folks at the Hilton and La Cantina that I've met across the pond, saw some new folks, too. Looks like you guys really got the short end of the stick, but you took that stick, and... well, you know the rest. Props to Clare Kramer for extending her hospitality. A tip of the hat to Sean Harry, who connected folks and orchastrated as best he could at 4 am, London time. Way cool Michael, Mark, Ron, Christina, Camden, MORENA- who wasn't even invited! That was awkward. Who told her, anyway? C'mon, guys. Loose lips and all, with the ships? It's getting really hard to ditch her. I regret I didn't meet that nice VM fellow. Next time. Thanks for all the drink offers, sorry I was a nerd and drove, so- DRINKY STINKY. (Points to anyone who gets that reference. The list will be short.) It was a different feeling, for sure. Maybe what I was feeling was the collective sigh of relief from the way out-of-towners. Maybe I was feeling the community that has come to define Browncoats time, and time again. Maybe I was feeling the hands of those two giggling drunksters who thought it would be a great idea to manhandle my ass while I'm trying to be cool and say hello to every person I could in that huge crowd. Ladies, and you know who you are, I deserve your CCR. Courtesy, consideration, and respect. That made me feel really bad. Next time, I single you out and let everyone know that you are the reason why I'm leaving early. It'd be kinda like leaving you for the Reavers. (60% Mal, you know.) Still sound like a good idea? Sheesh.
OTHERWISE, thanks for all the gifts- the book, the scarf, the space monkey, my face on a dog tag (where can I wear something like that? I'm excited to wear it- but, WHERE?) just to name some of them. Oo! And I'm drinking some fancy Harrod's Tea. Makes me want to grow a handle bar mousetache and take over India or something. Most of all, thanks for keeping it alive, Browncoats. It really shakes my tree that this little show that couldn't- somehow, still does. Crazy. You Flans are indeed the best Flans a fella could hope for.
I also told you that I'd update you on my upcoming projects (the real purpose of this site).
Waitress made into Sundance. Woo Hoo! White Noise 2 comes out sometime in Jan, I think, and earlier in the UK (that oughta make somebody happy). I have a super secret thingy in London coming up soon, and YES- I have a new job on television. Not gonna say what, just yet. But I'll be working with someone I've worked with before and you all love him. Don't ask. You will, but don't. All will be revealed!
Cheers.

I don't think there's a human word fabulous enough to describe you.  Although I wasn't able to attend, I can still appreciate what you did for my fellow Browncoats.

You most definitely deserve our CCR and shame on those girls who couldn't control the urge to grab at Captain Tightpants.

Can't wait to see you again on the small screen!

I've watched with interest the ups and downs surrounding Flan.  I was very impressed with your graciousness in showing up for those fans - you're a lovely person from what I've gathered (as are the rest of the people in Whedon's World).

Kudos to you, and best wishes for the holidays and the coming year.

damn you and your crypticness sir.
You and the other BDHs really do deserve all the praise and success you get, you have given so much back to our little Browncoat community it's amazing.
Excellent news about Waitress and WN2, but stop being all sneaky and secretive about the other stuff, we are dying to know.

You were - and are - fabulous!  :)  It was so great to finally meet you.  I was the one who you plopped down in front of after you climbed over the table and bugged you about the cookbook.  As you requested, I sent you a message via here at MySpace... my being new to this place, I'm hoping it got to you.  :)  Getting a submission from The Captain for Big Damn Chefs will make a world of difference for the project!  Thanks so much for all you've done for our fandom, Nathan.  It means a lot to us.  :)

New job in televsion, you say? A certain someone might have been dropping hints already. But don't worry, he picked them right up again.

Thank you for spending your time and bringing us browncoats a little (a lot) of cheer. It was my first convention and it didn't hurt a bit, thanks to you and so many others who put in their time, effort and money.

You ROCK!

*Waggles digits at the ass grabbers* Bad girls..bad...bad...bad!

Bruised buns aside, I hope you had a good time. It was a helluva thing you and the others did to help make a little lemonade out of butt-load of lemons. I'm sure everyone there appreciated it beyond words.

Really looking forward to hearing about the upcoming projects and sincerely hope the bad BE experience didn't put you off the prospect of new fan events down the road.

Have a Wonderful Christmas and a Spectacular New Year!

THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH for coming to Burbank!!!  I was truly amazed that you and so many others came.  Please tell them that everyone is so grateful for the time they took to make sure we all had a good time.

I can't say if it's true or not, but apparently when you were mobbed at the bar on Friday night, Justin Timberlake was all lonely in the restaurant.  Which is because you are way more awesome than some pop star.

And lastly, are you working on Drive, Tim's new show?  He said that the cast needed tighter pants nobody wears them better than you!

Thank you again!

You were so super cool to come hang with us on your own time - and the box! Made me wish I was from somewhere more exotic than Orlando. ;)

I saw the hands thing at La Cantina - totally appalled me. I know it doesn't change anything, but I chewed her out a bit for doing it. I don't think she gave a shit, but it made me feel better. Nobody has the right to touch another person like that without permission, and doing it on a night when you were just putting yourself out there in such a cool way really pissed me off. You do deserve to be respected, imho, and not objectified like that.

The way the flans and the Cali Browncoats and Sean H. and everyone else pulled together in the face of adversity made me so FUCKING PROUD to be a Browncoat...but never more than when you and the rest showed up on your own time as if to show that we still matter to you as much as you still matter to us. You so rock Nathan!!!  Man, my eyes are starting to mist at remembering the weekend.

And I do know what that tv thing is...I won't say it here, but I think it's the right vehicle for you. Check your email... :)

Hee, Michelle, you're very punny. :) Hope you had a safe flight back. Glad Jilly had fun. Oh, and I like your new avatar! Who is that guy? :)

(Remind me, I have instructions for you for how to get into the Bunk.)

And you saw the grabasser! I had no idea! Good on ya for chewing her out. If I had been with you at that moment, I would've been doing more then "talking" to her!

Nathan, so sorry that happened. I was talking with some of our group, and we all agreed that it is only a tiny percentage of so-called "fans" that act this way. But if you only have 1 bad experience with 1 rotten fan at each convention, how long before you decide it's not worth it and you stop being such a cool person? It will be such a loss to the fans if you end up guarded and stopped interacting with us. I imagine it would be a loss to you, too, as you seem to enjoy it. Again, so sorry that happened.

I don't know...he just jumped into my photo. LOL  It's actually one of the few photos taken of me that I just love to no end. We were having such fun and I think it shows in the photo.

Yeah, I saw the beyotch as I was trying to thread through the crowd and I just stopped what I was doing and went over. She was so drunk, she didn't even care, but I think I was remarkably restrained considering how much I know I hate having my ass just randomly grabbed by some jackass on the dance floor. Personal space is very important and combined with the fact that she did this to a man who was being so cool as to mingle with us when he didn't have to even be there - in the words of Mutant Enemy...Grrr! Argh!!

Will email you about the Bunk stuff.

You are our Shatner, man!  And I mean that in the best possible sense.  I was unable to attend the failed con and in turn the non-con, but am very impressed with how you guys stepped up to be there for the flans.  And feel it was really crappy that you were abused inspite of your kindness and will happily bloody some noses if necessary...let me know...I'm scrappy .

Really enjoyed your work in Slither, generally I'm not much for gore, but the humor was great.  Seriously, who else could make a scene with a zombie deer believable?  Looking forward to your new stuff, thanks for giving us a heads up.

I can't thank you enough for taking time out of your life for those of us that made it to the gatherings!  By all rights, you didn't have to do it (show up on your own dime and time), even though many of us know that you couldn't be you and not show up.  Basically every Browncoat that made it has a special place in my heart now, but you of course top the cake with your ability to deal with the most awkward of situations with as much charm and charisma as you mustered!  You really made several of us really nervous when you took the chance and left the booth.  But I know of one wonderful Browncoat/ANer from Germany that is most likely still grinning over getting to meet you personally at the club party.  *wink & big-happy grin*

As one of those who sat at the computer in support of those who were there (we had one Aussie there who was absolutely devestated to hear about the cancellation only after she arrived at the hotel straight off a 16 hour flight), Thank you!  You helped make the situation better.

As for the arse grabber... I'm fairly sure that she knows now.  And that's she's been totally called to task over it.

So thanks.. not only for turning up but also for putting up with us.  You really are our Captain.

I read a rumor on the interweb that you gave away a Harry Potter book. Nerd! I kid... I mean not really but still... You're a hell of a stand up, admirable guy, captain. Oh and the blogs, always funny. Really, you should write a screenplay. I'm sure it would be, if nothing els, funny... Just leave young wizard boys out of the story. Unless it's a really small part and you direct it and get James Gunn to play it just so you can yell "You're a young wizard boy! Even though you're in your 30s! Now, don't suck this time! ACTION!!" at him on set.

Three cheers for run on sentences in all their non-sequitor glory. And Three more for Captain Tightpants/Bill Pardy/Nathan Fillion.

I think it's time to shoot because we have seen the whites of their eyes.  I've already done it and I'm helping others to do it as well.

I was fortunate to be able to thank Clare Kramer in person.  She's such a sweet lady and she even thanked me for coming.  I am so grateful to everyone who made this happen (including Sean Harry who probably prefers that I not make a big deal out of it).  It could have been a disaster, but it turned out to be more than awesome.

Thank you very much for making Flan that wasn't the best time ever for me.  It was a pleasure to meet you.  You are most welcome for the book and thank you for mentioning it.  I heard about the ass grabbing.  A friend of mine saw it.  I just don't get that at all.  I'm very sorry it happened.  You were kind and generous enough to put yourself in a sea of fans and people have to ruin it.  Please know that most of us are eternally grateful that you were there and decided to mingle with us.  We have the utmost respect for you and try to be as polite as possible.

I am looking forward to WN2 and Waitress.  I hope Waitress gets a distributor so I can see it in the theatre.

I knew you had a secret thing in London because the woman to whom you mentioned it over the weekend is a friend of mine.  Heh, the Browncoat world is pretty tight, I guess.  I wish I could be there for it.

The new job in television is great.  I'm glad to hear that as well.  I won't ask since you won't tell even if I do.

Since you have a certain quirky sensibility and you are Bill Pardy after all, I thought you might get a kick out of hearing the song "Re Your Brains" by Jonathan Coulton. NPR interviewed him last Sunday morning and the alarm clock in my room at the Burbank Hilton turned on just as the song started to play.
