State: My Old Brown Earth
June 29, 2009 - Monday

Current mood:  intense
t has been a while. but life has been really intense over here.

i recently returned from a 2 week delegation with CPT to israel and occupied palestine, where we interviewed teachers, soldiers, farmers, those beaten and those who had beaten, and took actions of solidarity with palestinians whose farms and homes were being stolen and crushed--spending time with brave muslims, jews, christians, secularists from palestine, israel and the international community, all doing their parts to resist and/or nonviolently take down the occupation.

i have also been writing and recording a new album.

and more.

i hope to have a good chunk of writing about the trip done soon to share with you all, as well as a solid presentation with pictures and music.

i am looking for places in which to share about what we did and heard there, and especially to tell you the stories of real people living daily life under occupation. let me know if you'd like to host a night of sharing and singing at your house/church/school/field..... :)

and i can't wait for you to hear the new album!

so here are two little things i felt you all might like.

FIRST, here is a recording of our team singing together in at-tuwani, palestine, with a man (in blue, next to me)--a brave man who has been beaten severely by nearby "settlers" and whose field we helped harvest. my friend and excellent swedish musician, andreas w andersen, is playing the 1 dollar flute!

SECOND, here are the lyrics to a new sing-along that is almost finished. as you would most likely have guessed, it came out of experiences on the palestine/israel delegation.

it is called "Allahu Akbar (God is Greatest)". This line is almost always at the start of the daily call-to-prayers in Palestine.

You’ve heard it said, “Eye for eye and a tooth for a tooth.”
Allah Akbar. Allah Akbar.

Father, forgive them—they don’t understand what they do.
Allah Akbar. Allah Akbar.

The earth is my mother—my mother is never for sale.
Allah Akbar. Allah Akbar.

Your grip tightens round me—but look! The snake’s eating its tail!
Allah Akbar. Allah Akbar.

O God, my God. O God, my God, O God, my

Allah Akbar! Allah Akbar!
Allah Akbar! Allah Akbar!

Everyone spinning revenge now, but it’s nothing new.
Allah Akbar. Allah Akbar.

The madman you choke when you’re gripping my neck’s really you.
Allah Akbar. Allah Akbar.

We are the land and your ripping our life at the seams.
Allah Akbar. Allah Akbar.

Severed umbilical cord, checkpoint baby she screams
“Allah Akbar! Allah Akbar!
Allah Akbar! Allah Akbar!”

Boys and girls entranced, branches and roots join the dance.
Infants and grandparents told now to choose
A life of passivity, walls and old shoes.
Tools of our tools and slaves of our selves,
Loves of our fears—poisoning wells.

Broken winged dove, the cactus reserves running dry, serpent heal-crushed, a wall for to wail and
a wall for to cry. Aided by eagles, a red-talloned hawk. The dome of the rock, how to resist the checkpoint each block?
Allah Akbar. Allah Akbar.
Allah Akbar. Allah Akbar.

There’s a child with a gun at the crossing, he looks just like me.
Allah Akbar! Allah Akbar!

Good fences make for the best neighbors, they block out the screams.
