When you think about it, there are actually only 7 basic styles of music. 1) Classical, 2) Jazz, 3) Rock, 4) Pop, 5) Ethnic, 6) Experimental and 7) Eastern. Every genre can fit into one of these categories. I. E., blues, country, folk, certain cultural styles like say, ranchero, could all fit under category 5 or say, grunge, hard rock, metal, soft rock, progressive rock, rockabilly, etc, etc, can all go into category 3. Show me a song or piece of music and I bet I can put it into one of these boxes.
