Blossom Dearie died on Saturday February 7, 2009 in NYC at 82.  My all time favorite!  What a voice, what a style, what class....she could always get me swingin' again.            I fisrt heard Blossom Dearie in Cerrillos, New Mexico about 20 years ago at the home of Jazz drummer Pete Amahl.  He said "this is the shit" and I believed him.  I still have the tape that he made me of two of her albums and I listen to it all the time.  I love her version of "I Won't Dance" so much.  I later wrote a song for her in 2004 called "I gave you a chance" and hoped that she would hear it someday.  oh well...bye bye Blossom...I'm sure there's chirpin' birdies' in your heaven and a surrey with fringe on the top....
