He talks about how there are people who can be trusted. About how I must think positively to achieve positive results. About how the world is only dark because I leave the light off.
What he doesn't understand is that I turn off the light so I don't have to see the shark. He lies to himself about how desolate and cruel we really are. The human condition is not something that we can wash up. We can't cure it with some bandage of altruism. All the bonding and justice in the world will not rid us of our betrayal.
It's always the ones you give your heart and trust to that cast their nature upon you. The sheer existence of emotion corrupts us. Love and happiness by law have to befriend anger and sorrow. These things are all cogs in a machine which means they can't work without each other.
It's naive to think that any person is incapable of treachery. Even when one looks in the mirror long enough, he'll see someone looking back who would betray him. But just like everyone's got their drug, everyone's got their rationale. Lie to yourself and make all your friends into saints. It's just like a man telling his dying commrade everything will be okay. Bandage the truth.
