Greetings all. I feel that I must take this opportunity to explain my absence to those who don't know why I am not there in "corporeal" form.
A couple of months ago, my family had one of those inevitable tragedies that we all have to go through. As a result, my mother died and my father was temporarily unable to care for himself which required that I come home to mississippi to take care of him and my nieces for as long as it takes to regain some semblance of normalcy. After the immediate shock of said tragedy, I didn't really feel like dealing with parties or music or any of that. Only as of late have I started to remember how much my mom dug the fact that I was crazy enough to pursue music as a career and that has helped me refocus and regain my center.
But…that doesn't mean that I am able to leave here just yet. So, for the time being, I will be the ghost in the machine, as it were, acting in a non-corporeal capacity to continue working to help build the SF live electronic scene.
Your friendly neighborhood beat-maestro, ASTRONOUT, is handling all the "in-person" backlit stuff there and as you know, he is very dedicated to the music and to the local scene, so I have no doubt that BACKLIT will grow in ways that I could only imagine.
Remember…EVERY BACKLIT is very important. All of the guys that come to play are doing so for the love of the music and the love of the community and they deserve respect and support. And the best way to show that respect and support is to show up, even if you are not playing that night. Because, as some of you have seen with our woes concerning venues, they need bodies in the place to justify allowing this party to go on. So please come out and support the artists that come to share their art, on july 16th @ MILK bar, over across from Amoeba records, on haight.
There are only two types of people that go out to events; the ones that come and say "impress me!....show me something…" and the ones that bring the party with them. be the latter and you will see something wonderful happen.
