Current mood:  satisfied
Here's the skinny.

Upside:

Sales are going up steadily.
Our customer base grows weekly.
I've got billing terms with Diamond and Alliance now, so our cash flow has freed up a bit.
We're dangerously close to being profitable!
(And that includes taking home a paycheck for myself!)

Downside:

I am falling behind on some of my basic paperwork, and my overall workload is high enough that it looks like I won't be able to continue posting on this blog very much longer. I do still spend some time over at the Captain Comics message boards, posting occasionally about the store (but mostly just making bad jokes). There are a few posts over there that I'll probably repost over here on the ol' blog from time to time.

Once we get to the point that I can have some additional help in the store more often, I'll take a look at blogging regularly again.

Thanks to all of you who have been reading all along! I hope that the few of you out there who are considering opening your own store have gotten some insight into the process.

Check back every so often, though. You never know when I might show up with some interesting tidbit...

Glad to hear things are still going up. I am starting to scare myself with my volume. Based on your P&L model, I should hit sales numbers I had planned to hit at the end of my 2nd year.

Be careful with the help. I had a guy who was here just about every day. Helping me sort, stock, ... he just loved being here. A couple times when, due to child care issues, I was unable to be here, he opened the store for me. No problems for 6 months. He was working about every other Sunday for me. He filled in for me a week ago Wednesday when my wife was driving back from Chicago. When I checked the computer, I noticed the drawer was opened 5 or 6 times without a sale. So I checked Sunday's drawer and it was $130 short. On a day when we did $45 in cash sales. When confronted stated he must have given out too much change.

Grr.

I haven't been to the Cave in ages, so I know what you are talking about. Sure is a lot of business stuff. Where did all of the reading comics time go?
