Who Gives Kudos:

Saturday, September 19, 2009
So this is Saturday and it's raining.  Rain has such a bad reputation - people get depressed and take it out on everybody else.  They get mad at the weather, as though the weather really has an obligation to consult them first:  "Excuse me Mister So-and-So, may I precipitate for a while now?  It's been awfully dry."  "No you may not, damn it!  I want more sun."  "But the eco system needs water."  "You heard me!  Sun!!  Or I'll take my money and go home!"

I feel good.  Think I'll put on a hat and go out for a walk...

I love the rain. I've lived in this area my whole life, and I love the sun (although not always the heat), but I'm always excited when the first rains start really rolling in, and everything feels like it's being renewed and rejuvenated. The smell of the rain and the wet earth and the dripping trees, and autumn waiting restlessly in the wings. The anticipatory glee of this part of the year always hits me hard, and makes me feel like a little girl again, watching the rain drip down the windowpane and waiting for the opportunity to go out and skip between the raindrops, laughing.

I think I'll go find my boots and join you outside. :)

We know rain out this way (I'm in Vancouver), and though I'm from
the prairies, I've learned to like the velvety rain we get here. Used
to have a more temperamental rain on the plains. You could smell it
coming, it'd bring thunder with it, sometimes lightning, then come
down violently and be done with. On the coast, it's more of a lullaby,
closer to mist at times. I don't get mad at it, though it weighs on me
once in a while when that lullaby gets sung for ten days in a row. DL
