Take a good look at our 1000th Capture
AMW's off the air this Saturday for NASCAR racing live from Darlington, but we have some exciting news to share: after 21 seasons of TV crimefighting, AMW tipsters came through again to make accused killer Dwight Smith our 1,000th direct-result capture.
Cops say Smith, a licensed real estate agent in New York, gunned down long-time friend Dougal Mills and terrorized his relatives after Mills was unable to pay off an outstanding debt. For nearly a year, Smith had managed to stay one step ahead of the law, but on the night of April 19, 2008, a tipster noticed the suspected killer on AMW.com and gave NYPD detectives the information they needed to take him down.
AMW producer Matt Jablow had the privilege of covering the case, and he says that while it was an honor to work on AMW's 1,000th capture, the most important thing is that your tips have taken another murder suspect off the streets.
"The police really needed our help on this one," Matt said. "I'm just glad our tipsters are always on the lookout." In this case, cops really went the extra mile in providing us with the clues we needed to help crack the case.
"I get to see things that no producer ever sees," Matt said.
Needless to say, Dwight Smith wasn't nearly as excited as we were about being AMW's 1,000th capture. See the video of cops hauling Smith into the station house, and tune in Saturday, May 17, as we celebrate AMW's 1,000 direct-result captures.
