Aspiring Teacher Gunned Down In Philly
Police say 23-year-old Beau Zabel had aspirations of teaching in an inner-city high school, and had recently moved from Minnesota to Philadelphia to pursue his dream. But cops say on June 15, 2008, Beau's life was cut short when he was gunned down on his way home from working the night shift at a local Starbucks.
Sadly, authorities believe that the suspect's only motive in killing Beau was to steal his iPod.
AMW's Olivia Clayton traveled to Philadelphia with detectives to learn more about violent crime in the City of Brotherly Love. Olivia says that Philly police are very dedicated, and plan to work Beau's case from every angle.
"They're talking to people from all over the city about Beau's murder and other crime in the area," Olivia said. "Hopefully, an AMW tipster will be able to offer some insight on the case."
Olivia says that the worst part about the story for her is the fact that Beau was killed -- shot to death at point-blank range -- simply because the suspect wanted his iPod. "Nothing else was missing," she said.
This Saturday night, we're counting on you to give us the tip we need to crack the case. In the meantime, log on to AMW.com to get a first-hand look at surveillance footage that police say is one of the best clues we have in identifying Beau's killer.
The video shows Beau buying a soda just moments before he was killed. Watch closely as the man cops say is responsible for the heinous crime retreats down an abandoned Philly street.
