Is it possible for politicians to be honest? I mean, isn't that expecting a little too much? Everyone has an agenda, let's at least agree to that. But, I think the whole thing about the world wide web is that everyone has a voice, not everyone will be heard, but that's up to the public, isn't it? And in a way, it's the truest form of democracy, we all have the opportunity to say what we want, to call out who we want and post it out there for anyone to see. Potentially, this could be the most "honest" election yet.

Check out this article I read in the Wall Street Journal from September 21, "Keeping the Debate in Politics to This Side of 'Pants on Fire.'" It's all about these really great, accessible websites like factcheck.org and Politifact where "facts" from candidates are researched and rated from "true" to "pants on fire". Funny right? The site doesn't rate the overall "truthyness" of a candidate or takes sides. Now, through the power of the people online, every time a candidate gives a speech where there's some really juicy number or fact that gives them an edge, there are places that will tell you exactly what it means and if it's TRUE! Hey, I'm not saying politicians aren't going to lie, it's just getting harder to get away with it. And I say booyakash! to that.

I understand what you are saying, SuChin, this makes perfect sense. Although, to a particular politician, I don't know if "agenda" is a part of his vocabulary nor do I think he can define that word either. Not going into as to whom that may be but I am sure you can piece it together.

To me, the NSA, the DIA, the NRO, the CIA, and politicians are all alike in this aspect, they never tell it how it really is, they lie like there is no tomorrow. The only way to stay in power it keep the majority of the people whom you supposedly serve or protect (even if it's in their best interest or need / right to know) in the dark about everything.

Here is where those agencies and the politicians differ, those agencies get paid to lie to us, the politicians are supposed to tell us the truth, albeit candy coated for those people that can't handle a raw answer.

National Security? What's that?!? With having over a dozen agencies having to do with this very vague phrase, having very secretive operations being conducted inside and outside the United States at any one time. You wonder how they can keep a lid on all of the secrets in the government. The more people you have given access to this information, the more potential leaks you will have, the more investigative action you must employ to make sure there is no leak, then you must check those people that are checking the leaks. And you wonder where all this Patriot Act money being funneled into the Department of Homeland Security Agency is going.

Here are great questions to ask all the presidential candidates:

What is your definition of national security?

Where does it start?

Where does it end?

Are you able to give people all their freedoms as U.S. citizen (natural born or otherwise) but still able to protect people sufficiently?

How will you implement it or modify the existing structures?

Are you aware the tighter you make security and force people to give up their freedoms in exchange for your form of law and order that you are actually making it less secure?

Sooner or later, that drum head you keep tightening with stretch then break.

Are you aware that national security could in fact be extended to that of providing domestic private section non-government / non-military based jobs for the citizens of the United States?

Hint: The more people with good paying jobs, good health care, living in safe neighborhoods, means less crime nationwide, which means that real terrorism can then be addressed better by everyone, not just the military and federal / state / local governments.

That is a part of national security nobody wants to talk about but it's the truth. There are far more people out of work than what the U.S. Census Bureau and Department of Economic Securities, along with the I.R.S. will report to the news media outlets. Once someone has exhausted their unemployment benefits and if they cannot receive any other aid because of their circumstances, they drop off the radar of the government statistics pertaining to that of unemployment in the United States.

How do you plan to remedy this situation and create more jobs, also creating accountability at all levels so people don't fall through the cracks?

The program "No Child Left Behind" is interesting for our educational institutions but should be extended to "No Citizen of the United States Be Left Behind", extending that from education and much further.

I don't think along party lines, I feel that by limiting myself to that way of thinking is quite ridiculous these days. I go with a person or group that will get done what they set out to do. Granted, I may not like what they stand for but it's something to be said about a determined candidate that becomes the President of the United States and doesn't waiver on what he has said he is going to do based on sound judgement and great timing.

I would like to see all bills that go to the President of the United States and to the U.S. Congress also have singular clauses on them. Not a bunch of bills crammed onto the same page. Meaning to say that if we took each bill one at a time, there are several bills that would never be signed, therefore never be put into action. Thus by doing this, we save money, time, and frustration, and get rid of those frivolous bills that funnel money into projects that remind of the "Bridge to Nowhere".

On a lighter note, we should have all the presidential candidates wear corduroy, those are nicknamed the "fire starters because of the friction walking down the hall, Vrrt-Vrrt-Vrrt. That would go perfectly, with the "Liar, Liar, Pants on Fire" theme, SuChin.

I imagine this fog makes me look a little like god

that would be cool if the presidency was like NBC's "meet my folks" and like the president was given a lie detector test and asked like if he was a player or if he really cared for our daughter(which would be like the country in this case). then like our daughter would go on dates with the canidates and like cameras would record the whole thing. then at the end, the parents(which would be the electoral college) would decide. in a sort of ABC's "bachelor" type thing where the winner would get a lapel pin. Unfortunately there would be no Mtv's "next" type thing cause that show is major gay.

Kelli Laine. A Memorial
Killed by A Drunk Driver

hmm where to start. i've enjoyed your blogs. very true about the power of the internet.

i've already coped a tiny resentment towards one of candidates b/c of the person
who runs his myspace page. silly, i know. but hey, if you cant get someone decent
to run your myspace page...then who are you going to assign the bigger tasks to?!!

anyway....... like you said, we all have our own agenda- so i would LOVE to know
what John Edwards PLAN (not bullshit talk) is about the shame of drunk driving in our country? every 15 minutes a person is killed, burned, paraylzed & forever scarred and yet we cant seem to get a handle on this??? gee, i cant even get my own friggin senator to respond. is our country immune to this because it happens so often?

the nation freaked out over the V-Tech killings. let me just remind everyone that we lose MORE than that EVERY DAY to drunk driving.

i dunno, seems to me if we cant even get our drunk drivers in check--- what hope do we have on other issues?

I am going to attempt to IM during the live show-- but i cannot put that page on kelli's top friends. i wont do that for anyone. kelli's top 40 are all people killed by drunk driving (and there is a freakin waiting list for others) and i will not take down anyones child no matter what.

however- if i am picked to IM, i will bulletin the results to kelli's supporters, which is close to 10,000

i'm doing on myspace what my state refuses to do. save lives. i will make damn sure that my daughters life AND death matter in the world. do you know we didnt even get our day in court because the state of SOUTH CAROLINA and the rest of the nation dont care about drunk drivers. mmm even our president has a DUI. so what do i expect?!!

thank you so much for the forum
much love & respect
pam taylor= still kelli's mommy
