It was BRILLIANT. Our 13th Glastonwick was definitely the best ever! Thanks to everyone who came (the friendliest bunch of punters I've ever seen at any festival, anywhere...) to the volunteers, to Alex Beer Monster for sourcing the beers, to the Dark Star Brewing Company for providing the infastructure and to Jenny and Trevor at Coombes Farm for having us! Beer of the festival was definitely the one Dark Star brewed and my wife Robina named in my honour......Ginger Hop Knob Flop! Definitely did what it said on the tin! As for the 24 bands/poets/singer-songwriters, well done! You were all great. Special mentions to TV Smith (who did the best set I have ever seen him do, and I have been watching him for over 30 years) to Strawberry Blondes (who absolutely tore the place apart on the Friday night) to PPZ-30 from Brussels whose original funky-punk got everyone going and to the mighty Blyth Power, who gig so rarely these days and should do MORE! Well done to one and all. See you next year, first week in June! THANKS - Attila
Our annual Beer, Music, Poetry and More Beer Festival: three days of real ale, real music and real poetry. In the early days it was held at The Barn Theatre in Attila's home village of Southwick, West Sussex. Then we moved to Shoreham Airport, 2 miles down the road, for 4 happy years, but due to massive increases in red tape at The Airport we moved to CHURCH FARM, COOMBES for 2007.
It was FANTASTIC! The best one ever. Idyllic location, great landlords (cheers Jenny and Trevor!) So we're back again for 2008.....
There has been a small price increase to cover costs - £2 extra on the Friday night, and £2 extra per night for the camping - this will pay for extra toilets! But I hope everyone will still agree that Glastonwick represents incredible value for money.
We started Glastonwick in 1996, which means this year will be our 13th. Having been to loads of beer festivals with crap music, and loads of music festivals with crap beer, we decided to organise one where the beer was as good as the music (and vice versa) with very popular results...
NB to all bands/musicians/poets: The music side of Glastonwick is run by me, Attila the Stockbroker. I put on the people I have met and like in 28 years of performing. It's fully booked for this year now. And the only way people get to play at Glastonwick is either being friends with me already (that is friends in the proper sense, nothing to do with Myspace!!) or by sharing the bill at one of the 100 plus gigs I do a year and blowing me away! Sorry - that's how it is!
HERE IS THIS YEAR'S LINE UP!!
Attila the Stockbroker and Alex Hall (in conjunction with The Dark Star Brewing Co., Adur District Council, and Church Farm) present...
GLASTONWICK 2008 ADUR'S 13th ANNUAL BEER, MUSIC, POETRY, AND MORE BEER FESTIVAL
at CHURCH FARM, COOMBES, WEST SUSSEX, BN15 0RS
FRIDAY 4 JULY 2008
SATURDAY 5 JULY 2008
SUNDAY 6 JULY 2008
For the 13th consecutive year, and our second at the fabulous rural location of Coombes, this popular festival will again bring sleepy Sussex to life in July 2008. The main bonus of our great new venue is that we have been able to reinstate Sunday afternoon as a full session with entertainment.
As usual the event is organised by the founders of Glastonwick, namely local poet and musician Attila the Stockbroker and international cask beer advocate Alex Hall. Matt Wickham and Dark Star Brewery are part of the team this year as well...
As in previous years, we promise you a weekend of enormous quantities of delicious real ale (including many new brews as usual), farmhouse cider, perry, and top quality entertainment.
Frequent trains run to Shoreham from Brighton, Worthing (both only 10 minutes away by train) and other stations along the West Coastway Line. From there, jump on our special shuttle bus linking the festival with Shoreham High Street and Railway Station, Southwick Square and Manor Hall Road, and Portslade.
This year camping is offered on site for only £5 per night (Friday and Saturday) There is no camping on the Sunday and everyone needs to be off site by 7pm. Thanks.
