Brothers In Arms international Press ReleaseFollowing the success of their debut album, "
Born To Lose" (2006), the Portuguese hardcore band
Devil In Me are back with a new album.
"
Brothers In Arms" thirteen tracks seamlessly combine anthemic punk rock sing-a-longs with break-neck hardcore songs, all brimming with a passion rarely achieved in modern music.
With clenched fists in the air, boots to the floor, and anger swelling in their chests, Devil In Me have the ability to bring everyone together in one room regardless of their differences or musical tastes.
Lyrically, "Brothers In Arms" combines intervention and social/political issues with lifetime experiences which originate an explosion of feelings and anger that hardly leave anyone indifferent.
Featuring several guest appearances from genres like hardcore to melodic punk-rock and hip-hop, Devil In Me melds melodicism and hooks to unrelenting hardcore intensity.
Lou Koller and
Craig Setari of
Sick Of It All are just two of the guests who make this record one of the most interesting hardcore albums of all time. Lou Koller's raspy shout is supported by Craig Setari's guttural barrages, and together they carry the still-flaming punk torch wafting across the frontlines.
Apart from those two hardcore heavy weights, "Brothers In Arms" also features guest appearances from
Martijn of
No Turning Back,
Tiago Afonso and
Richie of two of the most important Portuguese bands (
Easyway and
For The Glory) and
Ex-Peão from hip hop act
Dealema.
Recorded and produced by
Miguel Marques (Easyway, TwentyInchBurial, More Than A Thousand) at Generator Studio, in Lisbon (Portugal) and mastered by
Alan Douches (Sepultura, Misfits, Comeback Kid, Madball) at West West Side Music, in New York, the result are 12 astonishing sing-a-long songs plus a very original version of the classic "God's Gonna Cut You Down", popularized by the late Johnny Cash.
If there were ever an album to help bring back the finger pointing and circle pits, "Brothers In Arms" might be a good bet.
Devil In Me biographyWhen in 2004 Lockdown emerged on the Portuguese local hardcore scene, it was already told to be a different band due to the melodic breakdown kind of hardcore made!
After a few shows around, a Portuguese label saw them live and offered them a chance to release a full length!
The name of the band was then changed to Devil in Me and a few weeks later Poli, (ex-For the Glory, Endless Road) Matos (ex-Criminal Waste) and Mike (For the Glory, Men Eater) went to studio to record their debut album, "Born to Lose". With 2 songs from the Lockdown demo and of course lots of new material, the album was ready by the end of 2005 and released in the beginning of 2006 with a tour all across the country with dates on some of the major Portuguese summer festivals like Super Bock Super Rock, Jurassic Summer Fest, Vans Club Tour 2006; and also with a small incursion through Europe.
Portuguese hardcore changed with that record! Finally, a new breath in this kind of music.
With influences of Rag Men, No Warning or Ramallah, Devil In Me created an original mix of sounds.
Since then the band have been playing nonstop, spreading good and positive energy all across Europe, sharing tours and stages with all the significant names such as: Comeback Kid, Sick Of It All , Pennywise, Madball, H2O, Justice, Another Year, Tribute to Nothing, Boysetsfire, Strung Out, Strike Anywhere, No Turning Back, Only Crime, Satanic Surfers, Napalm Death, Diecast, Burning Heads, Uncommonmenfrommars, 100Demons, Death Before Dishonor, Mad Caddies, True Colours, Agnostic Front Or Buldooze!
By the end of 2006 the band returned to studio to record their second full-length, "Brothers In Arms".
Recorded and produced by Miguel Marques (Easyway, TwentyInchBurial, More Than A Thousand) at Generator Studio, in Lisbon (Portugal) and mastered by Alan Douches (Sepultura, Misfits, Comeback Kid, Madball) at West West Side Music, in New York, the result are 12 astonishing sing-a-long songs plus a very original version of the classic "God's Gonna Cut You Down", popularized by the late Johnny Cash.
Released in Portugal in early 2007, "Brothers In Arms" was well-received both by critics and audience reaching the 17th place for best Portuguese records of 2007 by Portuguese music magazine Blitz. The album's self titled single reached 9th position on MTV's Portugal Hit List and featured for 8 consecutive weeks in the first place by viewers choice of Sic Radical's (TV Station) Max Musica program.
In 2009 Devil In Me plan to conquer Europe with the European release of "Brothers In Arms" through I Scream Records.
