Current mood: determined
So we were supposed to leave for part 3 of our tour 5 hours and 23 minutes ago. Right now, I should be sleeping peacefully in the back of our van. But after dinner tonight, Will went outside to get the van and bring it in front of the house so we could load up, and LO AND BEHOLD, the steering column broke. What does that mean? April Fools' one day early, that means we can't start the van, or put it into gear.
Will's dad, mechanic to the stars, came over to assess the damage, and said "son, I don't have any good news for you". Basically, we would need to tow the van to a shop tomorrow morning, get the part ordered, have it put in, blah blah blah. Where's Lee's Auto when you need it? So, being that we need to be in North Carolina (7 hours away) tomorrow by 6 at the latest, there's no way that we could wait for a shop to open and deal with everything AND still make it to our show on time.
Most bands would probably cancel the show. The way Will's dad made it seem, we'd probably have to wait a few days to get the part, and would therefore have to cancel the whole rest of our tour.
But not us! Come on now, you know us better than that! So, we're going old school and driving two cars. (Its cheaper than renting a van, we checked) We're already packed up, and while we had to super-consolidate our stuff, we're gonna make it. Sure, we're not going to look as cool pulling up to the venues without our super sweet van and trailer, but we're going to make it to our shows. And that's what's important, right? Right!
So wish us luck! We're gonna do our best to keep plugging along and doing what we love. You guys make it worth it for us. This tour has been amazing so far, and we've gotten to meet so many awesome people. Here's hoping the rest of our tour will be the same!
xoxo kate
