Since Jeff and I perform mostly original material, it was a pleasure to record the Christmas album this July, and to interpret some of those old holiday standards. While singing 'Silent Night' I was keenly aware that it's a lullaby, unlike when I sing it at a Christmas outing with crazy (and possibly tipsy) friends around. I always assumed that the line "Son of God loves pure light" was one sentence, with "loves" as a verb. And I always thought it was a little flakey. But while reading the lyrics I realized that "Love's" is a proper noun, showing ownership. Jesus didn't love light. He was the light by which we see Love. -or maybe the glory of, the embodiment of Love fulfilled. Cool.
