Do you support teen suicide?  Terrorizing young children and appealing to making money off of their fears?  No?  Well read on.

*Below is quoted text written by a new and relatively close personal friend (name will be withheld).  I feel it is necessary for this information to be unleahsed RIGHT now.  I am appauled by the fear in children I have seen from various Q&A websites and science forums regarding this issue*

Dear Sir / Madam,

We wish to bring to your attention a matter which most adults have
dismissed as nonsense, but which is bothering and even terrifying
children around much of the English speaking world.

That is the “disaster in 2012” fraud.  As you may know, it is based on
end of the current cycle of the  long count of days instituted by the
Mayan civilisation more than a thousand years ago.  This occurs on
about 21 December 2012.  While it appears that the Mayans themselves
made no prediction about this, some years ago a number of “New Age”
writers seized on this and began to predict great changes for that
time.

By now the predictions have reached the point of full blown “end of
the world” hysteria.  There are dire prophecies of invading
extraterrestrials, stray planets damaging or destroying the Earth,
geographic or magnetic pole shifts, volcanic eruptions, asteroid
bombardments and other improbable or impossible events.  Virtually all
this hysteria is among those whose critical facilities are not well
developed, particularly children.

The assertions are “supported” by absurdities about planetary and
galactic alignments and by supposed predictions by Nostradamus and
like sources.

The point of this appears to be the sale of survival handbooks,
slickly produced video discs, lecture tours by the principle hoaxers
and the sale of nonsensical documentaries to television networks.

There is little hope of dissuading these frauds from spreading alarm
while there is money to be made.  But it is possible that contacting
advertisers who support television broadcasts and internet sites such
as YouTube with our concerns may lead to pressure being applied to
reduce coverage of this dangerous nonsense.

In September 2008 the immanent first operation of the Large Hadron
Collider produced a burst of absurd rumours which resulted in the
suicide of a 16 year old girl in Madyha Pradesh, India.  This was
reported in the media on 11 September that year.  We are very afraid
that the mounting hysteria over 2012, which has a longer and deeper
history, will produce a similar result.

A number of internet users from Canada, the United States of America
and Australia have been attempting to debunk this apocalyptic drivel
for some years on various personal sites, web logs and question and
answer sites.  Recently we have come together to present a more
unified front.

You may care to allow us to use your name as a signatory to letters of
complaint to media outlets.

My recommendations.  Contact the advertisers of the History Channel (and assorted hysteria supporters and misinformation spreaders).  If we can explain to the assorted advertisers that they are playing a role in the potential suicides of the youth of our species, they might think twice about paying for such a dismal and ficticuous "mockumentary."  I have already written the Star Tribune, AM1500, St. Paul Pioneer Press, Ian Punnett, The History Channel, and other outlets.  I recommend you do the same if you feel this is a cause worth supporting.

This is not an isolated incident.  Being a regular on the Yahoo! Answers Astronomy & Space forum, I have come acorss questions like "With the world ending in 2012, why don't I just end it now, I'll never graduate?"  and multiple similar questions.  These organizations are a vile disease on the young and impressionable.  Dollars for death.  FUCK THE HISTORY CHANNEL and all associated bullshitters that are so fucking greedy that they desire a fucking profit over the safety of our future.  Shame on you!
