Inspirational and Pioneering Journalist Chats with AAJA-NY
Most if not all AAJA members are likely to have had their lives and career choices inspired by her. This September, Connie Chung – the journalist widely considered to be the pioneering Asian-American female in the industry – headlined an informal soirée in Manhattan for the AAJA New York Chapter.
More than 20 journalists, students and AAJA friends gathered at the Chelsea lounge "Earth" to enjoy appetizers, drinks and mostly casual conversation with the iconic newscaster.
Chung spoke of the struggles she faced in her 30-year career, and of how she overcame them with passion and determination. She encouraged those in attendance to pursue a balance between work life and leisure, and ended by advising everyone to be curious about their surroundings, outspoken even when in doubt and open-minded in the workplace – and suggested that people set higher standards in life.
