Love
By Darren J. Miles

Love can help one express the heart
But I don't know how to tell her how much I love her, and how I never want to be apart
I want to sum it all up in one simple phrase
Maybe I'll tell her "I love you 'till the end of my days"
But whatever I tell her, it won't change her mind
She has love in her heart, but it's nothing like mine
Every day we sit and talk, and take long walks around the block
We've made paper airplanes; we've dug in the sand
We've grown up together, and we've even held hands
I want to whisper to her in the softest voice, that my love for her is not by choice
My feelings for her; I wish they could end
No matter what I do, she sees me as a friend
No matter how much I try, how much I burn
She will never, ever, love me in return
I wonder if she ever notices my love
From the beat of my heart, as we stare at stars above
Every time I'm with her, I can't catch my breath
And my heart feels like it could jump right out of my chest
I can't hide what I feel or make it cease to be
Love is a cruel joke being played on me
These feelings I have keep growing stronger and stronger
I have to tell her; I can't take this any longer
So the next time I saw her, I poured out all that I was feeling
She gave a long sigh, and looked at the ceiling
She then stood in silence with out a reply
Then I started out the door and began to cry
I didn't get too far before I felt an embrace from behind
I swung around to look, and she placed her hand in mine
She asked me if I remembered the first time we did this
"We were little…", I started, then I was cut short by her kiss
Now gazing in my eyes, she whispered my name
"Ever since that day, I've always felt the same"
