CANE -
NON FICTION EP Released: Jan 2009
Catalogue Number: CS016
Lurching mutant acid attacks from the heavy combination of Don and Roel Funcken operating under their Cane alias for the Creative Space label. The pair have produced much of their finest material under their Cane alias, with direct dancefloor weapons deployed on Skam, Warp's shortlived Arcola, and Marguerita's lethal 030303 series bearing the name and used to devastating effect on darker floors around the world. This is their first full length project as Cane and thankfully they've not felt the need to bring in female vocalists and extended piano interludes, instead sticking to what they do best with eight tracks of constantly morphing acid lines, brittle but febrile drum machine patterns and that special oozy flow that makes Cane tracks sound they're moving in some kind of gel like substance. Their MC pal Non Genetic from Shadowhuntaz appears on the urgent opener 'Non Fiction' with a dystopian vision of wasted futures with a curious 80's electropop aura, while the rest of the set bucks and burns through rhythms with a restless charge sounding like their machines are working through the final few hours of a heavy 2CI trip. If you like Richard Devine, Autechre, Marco Bernardi or Surgeon you should waste no time in checking this out.
