hi.

so, here's the official album announcement. here goes: on june 30th i'm releasing my next album, 'wait for me'.

i recorded the album here in my studio on the lower east side (although 'studio' always seems like an overly grand word for a bunch of equipment set up in a small bedroom). in the past i've worked in large and small studios, but for this record i wanted to record everything at home by myself.

i have some friends/guests singing on the record. they're great singers, but unless you live in fort greene or washington heights you might not know about them, as they're relatively unknown (because i've found that working with friends is almost always nicer than working with rockstars).

i started working on the album about a year ago, and the creative impetus behind the record was hearing a david lynch speech at bafta, in the uk.

david was talking about creativity, and to paraphrase, about how creativity in and of itself, and without market pressures, is fine and good.

it seems as if too often an artists or musicians or writers creative output is judged by how well it accommodates the marketplace, and how much market share it commands and how much money it generates.

in making this record i wanted to focus on making something that i loved, without really being concerned about how it might be received by the marketplace. as a result it's a quieter and more melodic and more mournful and more personal record than some of the records i've made in the past.

it's also, for better or worse, all homemade, in that i recorded it at home with my friends and drew the artwork with a black sharpie on copy paper.

the first single(if you can call an instrumental with no vocals that we're giving away for free a 'single')is called 'shot in the back of the head', and i'm happy to announce that david lynch has done the video for it. i sent him the music and said, 'please do whatever you want'. so he sat down and drew some animation that is very dark and beautiful. david lynch is my favorite film director, and i'm really happy to have him as the first video director on 'wait for me'.

here's the link to video on pitchfork:

http://pitchfork.com/tv/#/musicvideo/966-moby-shot-in-the-back-of-the-head-mute

i mixed the record with my friend ken thomas. he's an amazing mixer/producer, and he's worked with everyone from sigur ros to throbbing gristle to m83. mixing the record with him was really nice, as he's creatively open to trying anything(like recording an old broken bakelite radio and running it through some broken old effects pedals to see what it would sound like. it's on the record as a :45 second long track called 'stock radio'). and as a geeky technical aside, we mixed the record using purely analog equipment in true stereo, akin to how records were mixed in the late 60's(some of the songs sound pretty amazing in headphones, if i do say so myself...).

ok, that's it.

oh, one last thing, i've worked hard recording and arranging the album as a cohesive body of work. i fully understand that most people listen to individual tracks here and there, but i ask that you listen to the album from start to finish even just once. oh, and if you go to moby.com you'll see that we've redesigned it. or, rather, are in the process of redesigning it. gone are the lovely ladies from 'last night', replaced by the lonely little idiot.

thanks
moby

p.s-oh, here's the tracklisting for the album:

division
pale horses
shot in the back of the head
study war
walk with me
stock radio
mistake
scream pilots
jltf 1
jltf
a seated night
wait for me
hope is gone
ghost return
slow light
isolate

Mary, that person on your default looks like a girl I went to talent scout school with in Arizona. What is her name? It may be her. If it is, I'm so thrilled she has become known all the way in the UK. I cannot remember her name, but I knof if you tell me I would remember if it is her. Wow, Tis a small world.

I love the name of the album, Moby. I will definitely wait for you, until June 30th ;-)...I watched the video (Shot In The Back Of The Head). Nice artwork. And you did it with just a black Sharpie on white copy paper. Wow. I love the way you draw stars. They are big and full, very nice to the eyes. :-)

Mo Love Mo Darling, *you* drew all of that video? Oh, I thought David did. I thought *you* drew the little idiots. I didn't realize *you* also drew the pictures on your music video. I understood it that *you* asked David to do the video illustrations for *you*. I was mistaken. Wow, then if it was your drawings, wow....I'm wondering what you meant by the video, what it means. Why is the man shot and what is the story line my love? ........I Love *You* With All My Heart,........Your Love Always Rachelle....xxxx....oooo....@>-->--

Looking forward to have the chance to listen your new album from a to z all straight. As I have read I think I will enjoy it , and who knows , it might have a chance to beat my fav. "The end of everything" (none has done it this far). So it is homemade, cool, and for sure you haverecorded more than this 16 songs, so will we have a chance for an extra bonus cd, with some more of those songs, or maybe with the awaited non stop 45 minutes song, you once told you had in mind for a future release. Whatever you might do, appreciated from all of us. ....And finally the Question: should we keep in mind a release show?, the sooner you tell us, the better for our economy so we can get cheaper prices to fly to NY. Give the OUTLANDERS a chance :p......Bgood

Back to the basics... simplicity at it's best. 'Shot In The Back of the Head' is wonderful and I do mean both the track and the video. Videos with a story are sorely missed as videos have lacked creativity for quite some time. Thank David Lynch for inspiring such greatness!!! I have to admit that although I have always been a Moby fan I have not always liked your work. I started listening to you when 'Next is the E' was playing at raves, and I kinda stayed away during your MTV days. Your talent was misdirected in my humble opinion for some time. Ken Thomas is amazing and I look forward to listening to the rest of the album. It is exciting to be excited about a new album, the anticipation is yummy!!!

ohhhhh grrrrr i'm really mad because i wrote down almost everything i wanted to tell you and this stupid computer started to be crazy again and cancel everything... hope to be next week soon with my new computer!!!........Ok, i'll try to remember.........1st it was about the new album. I'm sure it'll be an amazing record like those you've done till now (ok i know i'm a fan, so my opinion isn't really objective, but i'm also crazy about music since i was a baby, i think even before i was born, and i play violin and piano (i started to play 14yrs ago), ok well it's not really interesting, but it's to tell you i can appreciate when a sound is good or no). i went on the link you gave and to be honest i can't unlike it. i love instrumental sounds, i like them even more than vocal sounds, even if all the voices you chose for you albums are beautiful. but i don't know instrumental sounds have something that the vocal sounds don't have.well it's my feeling. ok so conclusion i like it.........2nd thanks for friday night the little death show was awesome but i was sas because i didn't get a picture with you. i asked laura and she told me yes he gonna show up in a few minutes, then i was waiting and she told me again, i don't know what he is doing but he gonna show up don't worry, then finally kris told me you were gone :( but that's ok the next time. and now that i live here and i can go to all your shows in NY :D :D. hope to have a pic with you someday :D.........3rd. See you on the 24th. Oh about that a friend of mine wanted to come with me at this show so i bought a ticket for her, but a few days ago i got an email from the place that say it's not for under 21 and she is 20. So i found another person to come with me it's not the problem, but she is disappointed she can't come because she'll turn 21 only in october!!! and in november she's going back in france.........ok that's it for now. time to study again and again :s. So see you on the 24th. have a nice week. take care. ........vany.
