ok, republicans won governorship in virginia and new jersey. bummer. but not the end of the world.

the real comedy is in new yorks 23rd district, a district that has been republican for over 100 years. everybody was supporting the conservative (read: lunatic right wing) candidate, doug hoffman. rush limbaugh, sarah palin, fred thompson, sean hannity, glen beck supported him, and republicans spent millions of dollars on his candidacy.
rush limbaugh said this 2 days ago:

"When Hoffman wins the race there it will be dismissed as an outlier... Folks, I want you to print these words out. I want you to get the transcript off my website. I want you to print these out, I want you to distribute them, I want you to carry them with you, and we'll just see how close I am to being right when Hoffman wins." - Rush Limbaugh

so with all that money and the support of rush limbaugh and sarah palin, what happened? what happened in this district that has voted for a republican congressman for over 100 years? the democratic candidate won.

notice to republicans: following rush limbaugh and sarah palin isn't necessarily such a good idea if you actually want to win elections. ok, time to play a show in lausanne.

I am a huge fan of Rush Limbaugh. People don't get him. I think he might just be a former ghostwriter for SNL. He is the greatest comedian ever... just sad that people actually thinks he is serious when he goes into warmongering spiels of his. He earns millions of dollars ranting about liberals, Obama or anything he doesn't understand.

His arrogance is classic... so I dont understand why conservatives believe he is real. I listen to his show whenever I want to get entertained. I also read National Enquirer while listening to him... a perfect combination.

Mobes....I hear where you're coming from and I agree with everything you just said. However, I think there are lessons for both major parties in the results of last night's elections.

I support President Obama and am glad he is president. Also, I'm glad that the Dems still hold majorities in Congress. However, if they don't cease the infighting and get some legislation passed, it will all be for naught! I mean -- I hate that the health care debate has taken so long that the GOP has had the right-on-schedule support of "Independent" Joe Lieberman materialize....as if by magic (dark magic at that).

I'm happy Pres. Obama signed the James Byed/Matthew Shepherd Hate Crimes Bill; this was a long time coming. However, I feel he's wasted too much time trying to be high-minded and reaching out to Republicans and conservatives. Seriously -- Republicans (IMO) only want the top 2% wealthiest people in this country to do well....to hell with everyone else!

In summation -- the Dems need to pull together and get some things done before it's too late!

As I've told you other times before I think you are unfair towards republicans and I think you should stay away from talking about politics. Don't you care how you offend your republican fans? You probably lose fans every time you write these kinds of blogs Moby.

Hello Ken. I am asking you this as respectfully as I possibly can...

Why should Moby NOT express his political feelings? I mean -- you don't have to agree with a thing he says, but telling him he shouldn't talk about politics is taking it a bit far, don't you think. I don't agree with the far-Right rantings of Charlie Daniels, Hank Williams Jr. or Ted Nugent -- because I don't care for all of the Confederate imagery and gun-play -- but I'd NEVER tell them they should stop talking about politics. Indeed, more power to them.

It's your God-given (or whatever) right to disagree with Moby -- and more power to you -- but he has every right to express his political leanings. And if you've read this board for any length of time, you'd see that Moby's Republican Libertarian and other fans of a Right-leaning nature haven't stopped coming here with any less frequency because of his views -- quite the opposite in fact.

It's all in exchange, is all....

My point is Moby criticizes and says Republican's are full of shit basically. How would he like to be called that? Moby posts these kinds of blogs too much and I know there has got to be listeners of his music that can't listen to his music anymore the same way after realizing he thinks they are jackasses.

My love Mo has the right to write about whatever he would like to. Please stop giving him a hard time about his political journals Ken!! Mo went through a spell of time when he paused from doing political journals I really feel to please and satisfy those people such as yourself who chastised him for posting them and that wasn't a good period. He wasn't being himself. His motivations and inspirational side of himself to share his opinions and beliefs were being too guarded. I was so thrilled and relieved when he started writing more political journals again, as I had been worried about him when he did not. He really enjoys politics and thus should never be prevented from discussing and sharing such. Smiles.

in my (foreign) opinion it will be interesting to see how (conservative) idelogical trends will affect the situation onwards. Some commentators interpret the outcome of the election in virginia and new jersey as a sign that more moderate republicans may show the way for the party to reunite. I think it is slightly surprising, but do not know the democratic candidates that lost. it would probably be wise not to ignore some signs, one being that some parts of the american population apparently have a (light) case of (political) amnesia.

So...Sarah Palin and Rush Limbaugh don't help you win elections, as evidenced by NY 23?

I'm just wondering...what does that say about Obama? He spent more time in Jersey than he did Washington the last few months stumping for Jon Corzine...Who got smacked down despite outspending his opponent 5-1 and being an incumbent democrat in a deep blue state.

So, how much more embarrassing is Tuesday for Obama than Limbaugh or Palin? 10x? 100x?

I hope you're ready for next year...Jersey and VA are a trailer for the feature film :)

It means that Sarah Palin wont be a presidential candidate in 2012 or ever. Limbaugh will eventually run out of hot air. He has become this raging lunatic because he sees his job on the line. He has become inconsequencial if not irrelevant and he knows it.
This is just more proof of that fact. It takes time for, as they say in Mexico, to get rid of the dinosaurs who have been blocking progress.

And oh my god. The republican tears in these comments are hilarious. Complaining about changes Obama's gonna make that won't effect you in the slightest because you're already rich white people with computers and internet who can afford to waste time whining on Moby's blog.

Hint hint you arrogant chumps, not everyone's as well off as you, everyone deserves healthcare. Dumb ass capitalists. Go ruin the world's economy somewhere else.

Yeah, Obama's help did wonders for Jon Corzine, genius. Five visits in two months, and how did that turn out again? Didn't I see them hand in hand about 36 hours before the election?

I have high hopes Obama makes time to campaign for each and every Dem next year.  :)

Only if I die in the next three years.

Heck, 11 months and change if by "In Power" you mean "Controlling both Houses."

Since Obamacare is going to get shot down for good soon, it appears I will live a great deal longer than that, however.

You seem to be disillusioned my good man, perhaps you are aware that Obama still represents the majority of Americans and you are under the influence of FAUX news? Also, why did you randomly capitalize 'in power' and 'controlling both houses'? Also, I didn't even say the second one, so what's up with the quotes? Perhaps I could interest you in a second education that involves not only English, but also an alternative view of health-care and monetary systems?

People who throw up words like 'Obamacare' show too many signs of the lobotomy. It's ok though, the new generation of voters will pick up your slack and vote him in again when four more years worth of teenagers are able to vote in 2012.

Sheesh -- SOMEBODY has a death wish for America! I doubt you were this solicitous when the last president took us to war under false pretenses and all but destroyed our credibility and respect in the world!

Seriously -- I DETESTED George W. Bush, but I NEVER wanted him to fail. I am becoming increasingly convinced that Republicans/conservatives don't care if the country succeeds (i.e. our standard of living improves), but only care if the Republican party has ELECTORAL victories. Stop sipping the hate-o-rade! Obama hasn't really been in there that long; he and the Congress have 8 years worth of garbage to clean-up -- the by-product(s) of the ..Rove.. Bush/Cheney Whitehouse.

You guys would be better served to find more constructive outlets than racist tea parties and the Glenn Beck show to express your "political" disagreements. You'd also do better to not label intellect as "elitist" (i.e. your devotion to intellectually devoid caricatures like Sarah Palin and GW Bush).

Do you not get that wanting our standard of living to improve and not wanting Obama's AGENDA to get pushed through are the same thing?

By the logic you're putting forth here, if you're not in favor of Obama's agenda, you're "rooting for the President to fail." You're bright enough not to play the "I don't understand the difference between the man and the policy" card. Don't belittle us all.

Keep playing the "Nothing is getting better because it's all GW Bush's fault!" card. As we saw in NJ and VA, that's a real winner for the Dems. I hope you keep spending that nickel right through the mid-terms.

Moby is a pretty cool guy, and I'm sure most of the people that posted in this blog are also but the amount of partisanship showing itself here is disturbing.  So many people agreeing with something because it's either red or blue, and condemning it just as quickly.

Let your own morality decide an issue, not its political affiliation.

This is where labels get it wrong.  The Democrat, Owens, ran his campaign with the idea of lowering taxes, moderate on social issues and was against the public option.

Scozzafava, the Republican ran with raising taxes, was considered very liberal and was for Obama's stimulus plans.

Because there was no primary, Republican voters were stuck with Scozzafava as an appointed nominee.  Hoffman, the third candidate in the running was a Republican, but because there was no primary, he was not allowed to run as a Republican, so he ran as a Conservative.

When Scozzafava dropped out, she started stomping for Owens, who was much more moderate than she was.  She used that money she raised to start robocalling for Owens.  The final vote count was Owens(D) 66,526(49%), Hoffman(C) 62,308(46%), Scozzafava(R) 6,986(5%)

Also, the 23rd underwent a redistricting change, that while it is true that several of those territories only had a Republican Representative for over 100 years, and those territories don't have a large population, several of the other territories included in the updated district had Democratic representatives in the past.

Just keeping everyone informed...
