People always come in and ask me, "Hey, it's my birthday, do I get anything special?", and every time I tell them, "Did you bring me a donut?"

In the over 6 years LanLizards has been open we have had only one standard birthday policy: If it is your birthday, you bring me a donut, and I eat it. In 6 years I have received 3 donuts, one of which was bigger than my head.

I know this seems like an odd policy, but remember I used to work for the corporate machine. At the company, if it was your birthday, you brought in a box of donuts to share with the rest of the employees. One year I brought in 6 dozen donuts to make sure everyone could max out on my celebration.

I think in a world where everyone wants to take-take-take, that it is heart warming to celebrate your life with a little giving. So in a way I am helping you out. I give you an opportunity to celebrate your life by giving me a donut. Do I need a donut? No. BUT do I respect you enough to eat your birthday celebration donut? Yes.
