Current mood: aggravated
So, with finals coming up, I was trying to figure out which one was more annoying, homework or tests. And, since I was bored and didn't actually want to study for those finals, I asked around.
Laurel likes homework better, since she thinks it's less "arbitrary," and because, with homework, you can control where you stand so long as you work at a steady pace. Whereas with tests, the teacher can throw in some random question that you're not as prepared for, and it can become a huge part of your final grade.
And Rachel disagreed, because doing homework is even more boring than taking a test, and it ends up being about doing busywork all the time rather than showing what you know at the end of the year. She said she'd rather have an hour of really intense work every once in a while than a steady stream of dull work that never gets finished. She said she liked projects, though, even if they could be considered homework if you got down to it.
I tried to ask Jess, but she said she didn't care. But she was reading a magazine at the time, so I probably shouldn't have bothered asking anyway.
As for me, I'm not sure which is worse. All I know is that they're both annoying and a bane on all our lives. I guess we have to learn this stuff, but they should really come up with a more accurate and less painful way of figuring out how much we've learned.
