     Corvette Lawn Care

Cut the grass.  How many times in my life have I heard or used that phrase?  When I was a kid, cutting the grass looked fun.  For me at a young age it became my job and still is.
As an entertainer, I often get asked if my wife ever comes to see me perform?  To which I always answer “my wife would rather see me cut grass than play guitar”. A simple funny comment, but all to true. Trust me, she has seen my show many times.
It is funny how a simple job, which so many people dread, can be therapeutic and relaxing to others.  There is also a different breed of individuals, the lawn care workers.  People, who do this hot, sweaty job day in and out for a living.  These yard specialists  have the coolest tools of them all.  They have machines that cut, swivel, sweep, bag, chrome, neon’s, hydraulics, spinners, ac, stereo, dvd, etc.…….They are like driving an Escalade that cuts the grass.
This brings me to another point .  I am a huge car guy.  I love classic cars with looks and style.  Most of the people who do lawn for a business have a big old fat daddy testosterone truck complete with everything you could imagine to pull their “Cadillac cutters.”  Not here in Key West!
On this island, there is not much grass.  You are lucky if you get a yard in this town let alone grass.  However, there are some folks in town who employ these hard working individuals to manicure their 15 feet ponderosa.  That’s cool, I understand, down here yards are like art and god knows we live in an art community.
My favorite of all the companies in town is the guy I call “Corvette Lawn Care”.  I have respect for the guy. I have seen him for years and I always think: “Only in Key West” would this happen.
He drives a 1980’s corvette with a hitch attached pulling his trailer full of mowers and weed wackers. The paint is a faded silver along with the other pock marks of yard work. The T tops are permanently missing  and it looks like it hasn’t been washed or waxed in years, but it’s still a Vette.  That’s right, the reality is the guy cutting your grass is driving a Corvette and looks cool.  Only in Key West does such a cool everyday attitude exist.   As a matter of fact, if cutting the grass gets me a corvette, I’ll go cut mine now.  I’ve always wanted a Corvette.
