born effington dupp III in the coal mining town of shamoken pa, eff dupp was always a bit unusual.
he could play guitar by age 6. by age 8, he forgot.
he wrote songs in his bed at night, and one day, while changing the sheets, he found them.
at 15, he quit school and took a job at the hat factory in ypsilanti, where the dupp family had moved. just as he was about to settle in to a lifetime of haberdashery, he was suddenly laid off.
out of a job, he decided to follow his dream.
when that didn't work out, he began a career in music.
roving aimlessly from town to town, taking gigs where he could get them, he landed in west memphis, where he walked into a diner after a show. sitting there, debating the artistic merits of producer shel talmy, were amadou schbagg, kaye seurat and saul goode. they became fast friends, and formed the ragamuffins of love.
the rest, as they say, is still happening.
eff has been called 'genius', 'visionary', and 'peckerhead' by sources as diverse as the press, the irs, and unnamed people.
in coming weeks, we will explore the intricate relationships between the bandmates.
