a thunder crack
right above the house
the cats run

(Watch out for a special post on Monday: an interview with Western Australian poet and haiku writer Maureen Sexton – a frequent contributor to Haiku on Friday – answering questions about haiku writing in general and her own experience with this form.)

Tony Walsh

I look for poems
in the spaces between the
thunder and lighting.

Mmmm.  I think I can do more with that idea.  Thanks Rosemary! :-)

Cloud to ground flash
makes dogs nape raise - tail stiffen
Waiting for big boom

Electricity
arcs from cloud to mother earth;
A.C. or D.C.?

Young lad is smiling
while waiting for the next flash;
God’s taking pictures

I might be a bit late here--don't forget USA and Australian times are different--but let's see if I can contribute something. This might come out more senryu than haiku with the way I've been feeling lately.

All sounds are muffled,
My affected ear destroys
Music and beauty.

The pain is throbbing,
Is this a sign that I must
Not hear what's out there?

Let me hear again,
Take away this monstrous pain;
Let the sounds be clear.

Note: If you haven't been reading up on my "statuses" lately, I had been very sick lately and now have a bad ear infection that has been affecting the hearing in my left ear. I am on an antibiotic but it seems to be slow to work. So I just need to write on this. Thanks, Rosemary.

I have indeed been noting your status updates with concern. Glad you can at least get some good verses out of it!
