Current mood:  nerdy
Category: Food and Restaurants
My work recently started ordering nifty lunch boxes when clients visit. I got to try one last week and it was super. Not only is the lunch delicious, but the box, the containers inside it, the cutlery and sandwich wrappers are all compostable. The box says they biodegrade in 4 to 8 weeks in the compost. I think they may have meant commercial compost systems that use heat but I snuck my box home and put it in a worm bin to see what would happen.
The little containers that held the salad, dressing, canapes and dessert look like plastic but they are actually made from corn.

I put the whole kit and caboodle in the worm bin on Jan. 30.

Now I just have to wait 4 to 8 weeks to see if it disappears. I can hardly wait!

That is cool! Can't wait to see what happens with it!

UPDATE: Yesterday I checked on the condition of the lunch kit. The paper and cardboard elements have completely broken down but the plastic-like containers and the wrapper for the utensils are still recognizable. They do seem to be breaking down somewhat as they are becoming a bit flimsy. And the worms positively love them! There must have been at least 100 worms on each container, slurping along the surfaces.
