BURGESS THE RHYMER

Just read the article and I agree with just about all of it (not the sex change, I must confess).

It's one of the things that attracted me to the songs of Gabi Garbutt and the Breadstealers (some of who also like the Indelicates) as well as yourselves.

I was wandering around Bloomsbury the other day, trying not to be too early for a water rats gig (the drinks are pricey) and I saw by chance ,a blue plaque for the poet Doolittle next to the Fopundling museum. I must check her out.

In music, I guess Marianne Faithfull has come round to being a performer free of the "marketing" you talk of, but it's been a long journey through the worst of it and her songs are often not her own, no matter how well chosen.

I do think though, Men have the same problem. We are expected to behave in certain ways (within music or anything else) but it's not noticed so much as we are part of what is a the moment, the dominant sex. Thank F*ck for Morrissey singing unmasculine songs.

(Steev) Burgess the rhymer

PS Von Pip, Shane Mac Gowan also wrote some fine songs, though not perhaps for some time.
