I'm back with yet another bicycle blog. I could talk about Nashville Star and I do love Gabe and hope he wins but this bicycle craze that's sweeping the country is really making a difference in my life. I have a new bicycle hero who I hope to meet one day on the circuit. Jim Witko. He came in last place in the Bridge to Bridge 100 mile ride. That's right 659 out of 659 riders. His time was 9 hours 59 minutes and 57 seconds. All I know is his name and time. I do not know his age but I do know that he does not stop easy. From my experience I've found when I ride Percy Warner Park everyone passes me but I go on anyway. It seems that no one who rides less strong than me attempts it. So far on the Natchez Trace I've passed no one. Jim Witko came in last but he did not quit. Everyone one was faster and stronger and even the guy that finished 2 minutes ahead of him must have had an easier time. Well the point of my story is, "I would rather come in last than be one of the people who doesn't try because of the fear of coming in last". My goal is to ride a Century ride soon and if last place is where I finish I will be very happy. There should be a little Jim Witko in all of us. Don't quit!

"..sweeping the country.." ? Did i miss the ESPN special? :))) Anyway, forget Jim Witko, there should be a little Kris Bergsnes in all of us.

I like your perspective. When I was in Tuscaloosa, biking was my preferred form of transportation since there were sidewalks everywhere you went and it was relatively flat... but I never did get into the long distance rides. It certainly seems like a healthy hobby... what kind of bike are you riding?

Sorry we didn't get around to grabbing lunch while I was in town. Thanks again for the lead on Sound Garden-- hope all is well, -Wes

I ride a Specialized Sequoia. It is cheap and strong and made for touring. More up right and comfortable. When I say cheap I mean $800 dollars. The last time I was in Tuscaloosa I ate at Dreamland BBQ. It was great!

wow...I like this a whole lot because it speaks to my music and my songwriting. I am so over intimidated right now that I am more frozen than that ice on the lawn...., hey it's always there, inside, but am just so over the constellation of talent and the outrageous ability to play. I am so basic! But this story is such an analogy to the songwriter. I don't know if you meant it that way but it is just plain true. The worst that can happen is you come in last, and have a great time on the way.
Thanks,
aspen
