Wausau, Wisconsin (July 11, 2009) -- Moving from a Spring to a Summer date, the not-for-profit WASFEn Con (Wausau Area Science Fiction Enthusiasts Convention) will be back in Central Wisconsin with its most filled day of programming yet, along with some returnees and some new faces amongst the Guests of Honor list.

WASFEn Con 3 is billed as "Fun and Fantasy for the Whole Family!", and founders Evan Harrison Cass and Keith Draheim have done everything to ensure that everyone from the hardcore to casual science fiction, fantasy and horror fan of any age will find something of interest.

Added to this year’s attractions is comic book writer John Jackson Miller (
www.farawaypress.com), most famous for STAR WARS: KNIGHTS OF THE OLD REPUBLIC and IRON MAN, recently made into a major motion picture. Miller has also written a column for the COMICS BUYER'S GUIDE, a national comic book magazine produced in Wisconsin.

In addition, joining the ranks will be Kelly McCullough (
www.kellymccullough.com), author of the cyberpunk WEBMAGE/RAVIRN series of novels; and comic book publisher Michael Hutchison (www.metromedcomic.com), creator of METRO MED and editor of FANZING PRESENTS: JOB WANTED.

Back again will be WASFEn Con favorites Patrick Rothfuss (
www.patrickrothfuss.com), whose novel THE NAME OF THE WIND has garnered much critical acclaim and is being considered for a possible movie deal; Tim Seeley (www.timseeley.com), comic book artist and writer for Devil’s Due Publishing and Marvel Comics, and famous for the his original series HACK/SLASH, which currently has a movie in production, as well as work on the G.I. JOE VS. TRANSFORMERS and R.A. Salvatore’s FORGOTTEN REALMS/DARK ELF series; and Kathryn Sullivan (www.kathrynsullivan.com), author of DOCTOR WHO: SHORT TRIPS and AGENTS & ADEPTS. Rothfuss was well-liked in previous years for his engaging personality and intriguing panel discussions, Seeley for his work with children at the convention and his overall generosity to attendees, and Sullivan for her friendliness and kind nature.

Also included will be the third annual The Women’s Community benefit auction (a great cap-off to the event), guest interviews and readings, an all-ages costume contest, MAGIC: THE GATHERING and YU-GI-OH! game tournaments sponsored by Johnny Cee Cards, comic book portfolio reviews by Seeley and Hutchison, a kids creative writing workshop with author Kathryn Sullivan, "Comic Book Jeopardy," the opportunity to get pictures taken with the "real" Cassie Hack of HACK/SLASH fame, "The Rocky Horror One-Man Show," game demonstrations, informational tabling by The Women's Community and Bridge Community Health Clinic, and many varied vendors selling items in the full range of science fiction, fantasy and horror. (The complete programming schedule follows the press release.)
