Three passions have governed my life: The longings for love, the search for knowledge,
And unbearable pity for the suffering of humankind.

Love brings ecstasy and relieves loneliness. In the union of love I have seen
In a mystic miniature the prefiguring vision Of the heavens that saints and poets
have imagined.

With equal passion I have sought knowledge. I have wished to understand the hearts
of people. I have wished to know why the stars shine.

Love and knowledge led upwards to the heavens, But always pity brought me back to
earth; Cries of pain reverberated in my heart, Of children in famine, of victims
tortured And of old people left helpless. I long to alleviate the evil, but I cannot,
And I too suffer.

This has been my life; I found it worth living.

that of which society values boils down to status and appearance;
dare we admit that we live in a society where the value of a man is placed on his prestige and limited to the figures in his bank account while a female's worth seems to only go as far as her sex appeal can push her?

originality seems a lost ideal, for on the rare occasions that it is found it is mimicked, repackaged and sold as a knock-off
how can we claim to strive to be our best if we spend our entire life trying to be like someone else?

the images and values that bombard us from our youth, mold and suppress us, leaving our identity behind a socially constructed veil; and who we are is hidden to a world whose observations are based solely on what the eye can see

don't be alarmed then if you fail to recognize yourself in the mirror, for trying to find yourself in your reflection is counterproductive and will just make you further lose sight of yourself

could we ever break free of the values of a world that is so inherently a part of what we are? and if we could would we even choose to do so?

while anyone can play the role of the social critic, we are all part of a system that can only perpetuate because we buy into it
and ultimately we are all just hypocrites who will spit on and label the filth with one face all the while secretly nourishing it with another

"be ye set apart from the world"
"be unstained by the world"
You are right, of course, Dani. Thing is, if the world is all you have to work with, if it is as far as your reality reaches
Then your setbacks and your declines in health and years will be devastating
because there's nothing else.
Unless you embrace the idea that there is, in fact, something else.
There are things that matter, far beyond what the world says. The world is a liar.

Find Truth.

I honestly dont think that there is anything inherently wrong with the societal structure that you are referring to because it is deeply rooted in thousands of years of evolutionary development. One might argue with the evolutionary rules all they want, but if they dont adhere to them, then nature will unapologetically cull their genes from the garden of life. Attraction is merely an outward appearance of genetic health. But knowing that genetic health can only take the species so far, an evolutionary premium is also placed on character traits that facilitate survival, such as intelligence, status, success, and other Alpha-Male traits. The result is one half of the species valuing physical appearance above all others, and the other half of the species having a more nuanced approach to attraction. All of them are equally important to the long term health and survivability of our species. Resistance is futile, because there are powerful forces compelling men and women to behave as they do.

As far as your opinion, while individualism is important, i see nothing wrong with mimicking success. Knowing that people who attend Harvard have an extremely high success rate in our society, one cant blame high schoolers from wanting to mimick someone elses chosen path of going to Harvard College before entering the work force. Nor can one fault the guy who wanted to dress nice before going out and meeting women. I understand your frustration, i just think that it may be in vain. Good writing by the way!!

What we are experiencing in America is FREEDOM DESTRUCTION at a pace never seen before.  Some are waking up and I hope for more to do the same and FAST!!!!!

Well written but a tad on the negative side. I happen to believe I'm quite original, productive and while I may be copied, I am never duplicated.

I am 100% original and I agree with the things I see myself. I will say I am attracted to bright shiny object, and pretty women....this has NOTHING to do with what I see on TV, or in ads; I just am I guess.

I love the way you write as well, so you to me, become even more 'attractive' if this makes sense. I am first drawn by the outside, but not so shallow, I ignore the inside. Now since you happen to be pretty, do you feel like you're judged on your looks as well, for example?

Good blog.

A little David Wilcox:

Most folks suffer in sorrow,
Thinking they're just no good.
They don't match the magazine model
As close as they think they should;

They live just like the "paint by numbers"
The teacher would be impressed;
A life-time of follow the lines,
So it's just like all of the rest...

Nevertheless, I understand your point: We, as a society, manufacture the quagmire of mediocrity into which we have devolved. It is our own fault and we have no one to blame but ourselves... unless and until we awaken from our own self-induced stupor and make the changes we wish to see. Think global; act local.

the values of the world or at least our country is capitalism... the ones hold all the capital or resources chooses to hold on to it at the cost of the rest of the people. the rest of the people really don't even have a chance to live without the filth because the everything is filth... i know me and u arent going to heaven but everyone else is living like they are, not caring what their lives leaves the future nonetheless what filth they are living blindly in now..
