(Standard Press Release Fare)

Fans of Mystery Science Theater 3000 won’t want to miss the stars from the popular comedy series as they unleash their off-kilter zingers on the “worst movie ever made” in RiffTrax Live: Plan 9 from Outer Space – a special one-night, nationwide in-theater event on Thursday, Aug. 20th at 8:00 p.m. Eastern / 7:00 p.m. Central / 6:00 p.m. Mountain / 8:00 p.m. Pacific (tape delayed). Michael J. Nelson, Kevin Murphy (Tom Servo) and Bill Corbett (Crow T. Robot) are reunited in high definition for the first time ever on the big screen for an evening of LIVE riffing from The Belcourt Theatre in Nashville, Tenn. ....

Tickets are available at participating theater box offices and online at www.FathomEvents.com. For a complete list of theater locations and prices, please visit the Web site (theaters and participants are subject to change). ....
The ultimate riffers who “make movies funny” on the Internet comedy sensation RiffTrax.com will fling wisecracking commentary LIVE at a color version of “Plan 9 from Outer Space,” a 1959 science fiction/horror film featuring aliens, zombies, amateurish special effects and bad acting. Written, produced and directed by Edward D. Wood Jr., “Plan 9” is often regarded as the "worst movie ever made." ....
Presented by NCM Fathom and Something Awful, this exclusive RiffTrax Live: Plan 9 from Outer Space event is hosted by Veronica Belmont, co-host of Revisions3’s tech-centric show, “Tekzilla” and “Qore” on the PlayStation Network. Something Awful’s Rick “LowtaxKyanka will present a guest segment and Jonathan Coulton is the special musical guest. The event will also feature an exclusive look at a new, never-before-seen short that audiences may download following the event. A URL and code will be revealed at the end of the event for the short as well as a free autographed digital photo and song by the RiffTones. ....
“We love doing live shows – the humor is so infectious it just multiplies the fun,” said Michael J. Nelson, RiffTrax creator and former host and writer of the Emmy-nominated, Peabody Award-winning Mystery Science Theater 3000. “So to be able to bring this experience to so many people is very exciting.” ....
Mystery Science Theater 3000 spent a total of 11 seasons on Comedy Central and the Sci Fi Channel in the late 1980s through 1999. The series features a man and his robot sidekicks who are trapped in space by an evil scientist who forces them to watch terrible science fiction B-movies. The three make fun of each film, providing hilarious commentary or "riffing.” Nelson created RiffTrax in 2006 to continue the “riffing” on blockbuster films such as “Star Wars: Episode 1” and “Star Trek.” RiffTrax are downloadable online and are played along with the film, providing a unique and amusing commentary throughout the course of the movie. ....
RiffTrax Live: Plan 9 from Outer Space appears on the big screen in high definition with Cinema Surround Sound in 434 select AMC Entertainment Inc., Celebration! Cinema, Cinemark USA Inc., Cobb Theatres, Georgia Theatre Co., Goodrich Quality Theaters, Hollywood Theaters, Kerasotes Showplace Theatres, Marcus Theatres and Regal Entertainment Group movie theaters, as well as Arlington Theatre (Santa Barbara, Calif.) and Palace Cinema 9 (South Burlington, Vt.) through NCM’s exclusive Digital Broadcast Network. ....
“NCM Fathom is continually bringing unique in-theater programming to local movie theaters across the country – from Off-Broadway and opera to anime and drum corps competition and everything in between,” said Dan Diamond, vice president of Fathom. “RiffTrax Live is a hilarious event that is perfectly suited for the big screen and not only riffs on the worst movie ever made, but allows audiences to experience this hilarious adventure LIVE alongside other fans in an entirely new way.” ....

I've already bought my tickets.  I was charged a "Convenience Charge."  I don't know what is so convenient about being charged two extra bucks but I’m just glad there was a local theater showing it.  Course, there’s also the cost of paper and color ink it took to print out the giant ticket.  But I’m cheap.  Apparently The Room is some kind of cult hit with theaters selling out tickets and patrons lined around the block to get in.  If it could ever be worked out legally they should do that one in theaters.  Newbies to bad films have been calling it the best-worst movie ever made and even “The Citizen Kane of bad movies” which is of course absurd.  It’s bad (and a classic) but also very boring with those long sex scenes.  Plan Nine From Outer Space however is a non-stop thrill ride of emotion and action from which there is no escape.  Everyone is so eager to declare the best-worst movie ever but you have to take your time, do your research, and suffer greatly as Mike has before making such a claim.  And really, isn’t Red Zone Cuba the worst movie ever made?  Oh, and remember to buy iriffs as well.  Look for Mr.B.Natural, he's the best.  And he's me.

Woo! Several Atlanta theaters on the list! I'll buy my tickets this weekend! I'd put the DVD on my Amazon Wish List, but to see it "live" via broadcast -- and in a theater -- will be sweeet.

Gonna drag bring my husband with me to the Albuquerque showing --and he's gonna like it.  It'll be sorta like sitting with me while watching a bad movie (minus the shhhushh-ing).  Believe it or not, he's never seen "Plan 9"!  He'll thank me later.

Or I'll have to sleep at my mom's...

I'm looking forward to it, Mike.  I'm glad this is getting a wider release than some of the other movies I've wanted to see lately (Iron Maiden: Flight 666, and The Hurt Locker).

I will also accept this as an apology that MST3K: This Island Earth never even made it to my college town back in the day.
