After the sabotage of my last feature film during shooting in 2004, the subsequent computer crash that erased all of its edited footage, the death of my mom, a job change, a move, and my wife’s battle with breast cancer, 2009 will be a rebuilding year for me, my production company (Candlelight Pictures), and my Arkansas based networking club for producers/directors/writers and crew (AMMO).
I am on this social site for networking purposes and will post cast calls and crew information requests here, but I will be more active with posts in my Candlelight Pictures yahoo group. In that group I will be networking with professional and student crew members as well as veteran and aspiring talent. The interaction will be busy at times because I will not be the only producer using that group to assemble cast and crew.
Because I am in a rebuilding phase, I will be working with a lot of students on independent projects aimed for market at film festivals. Most of these will be ultra low budget and zero budget projects that will not pay actors on the front end, but would pay something when and IF the project sells. This is the perfect opportunity for those needing experience to get involved. In low budget independent films, cast members often serve in some capacity on the film crew, and sometimes have a creative voice in the development of a project.
Unless I get a good group of investors, 2009 will not be a year that I can pay cast/crew SAG scale rates at the time of production. However, for someone wanting to get involved in film, I can offer a wealth of knowledge from the collective experience and creativity of those in the group. This is an opportunity to learn about every aspect of production from start to finish including the editing and marketing of a film. For some it will be an opportunity to get something added to the acting or production resume and to be part of a movie project.
