Happy MLK Day where we celebrate the emerging of not only my life with my wife, but also my parents and those who came before us. Because of a great man, one person-who could have just said no, "I am only one person, I can't change it", but instead took the power of one person and did change the world. There are also people who Martin Luther King, Jr. fought to change, who have instead kept us down, not just as a race but as the entire human spirit. One of those people is Al Sharpton, who defines himself by the color of his skin, in contrast to Dr. MLK's well known words "I have a dream that we will not be judged by the color of our skin but by the content of our character." Al Sharpton seems to be making the divide the between white, black, Hispanic, even deeper by only speaking up for the black side and not the human side. There is a difference between an appreciation and pride for one's history and heritage as opposed to clinging so tight to one's 'kind' that instead you become a tool in division, separation, and a force of social segregation.

Let us just take for one example the instance of a woman on the golf channel who took a too friendly attitude on air in reference to long-time friend Tiger Woods. Her comments may have been inappropriate but she was not to be fired, wasn't suspended, realized her inappropriateness and Tiger Woods publicly stated it was no big deal. Our friend Al stepped in to call her 'the Next Imus'….who let's all remember stood behind and meant his words toward complete strangers.  Al called for "some kind of stern action to be taken."  This resulted in yet another Al-induced 'Racial Uprising' which shook the golf channel to their knees in obedience resulting in her suspension. Where was his moral uprising and upholding when he flew himself to Mexico for a secret advise-giving meeting with a black escaped convict? A convict who not only unlawfully escaped from prison and fled the country but caused a white CO to commit suicide by untruthfully claimed the CO had helped him…devastating the CO professionally and personally. Where was the injustice to another race outcry? Oh, my bad, the convict was black, the victim white.

All I want to say is that I want to celebrate the human spirit. The heart that pumps the blood through each and every one of us and causes us to love. Let's just love one another today, no matter who you are. And remember that spirit, the spirit of a man named Martin Luther King.
