I've been really bad, lately. I've lost touch with quite a few friends because I've buried myself in projects. But I do that thing where I plan a big gesture, and then so much time passes, that you get so swamped in work and the most you can do is tell them about the planned gesture. Anyway, I've been busy.
Richard Wong's Option 3 screened in SF, Pittsburgh, and LA, where it won a Technical Achievement in Art award. Working on the film took a lot, especially since it was such a darkly personal film for Rich. I put the new song from that film as the first song in my profile, if you want to take a listen.
I just finished editing a rough-cut of my directorial debut, Fruit Fly, a musical film about a Filipina fag-hag named Bethesda, played by L.A. Renigen (Maribel from Colma: The Musical). There are a few pickup shots to be done, but I'm really happy with it, so far.
I just spent my last night with Precarious Theatre for whom I wrote some original songs to be performed in their new play, I'm Yours (or Deranged by Love), adapted from an episode in Miguel Cervantes' Don Quixote. The workshop presentation is for two nights only - June 6 & 7 at EXIT Theatre.
And now, I'm ready to reconnect. From here on in, it's all Fruit Fly, all the time.
And maybe some time for some Melodica.
But first, I'm going to write a few e-mails and make a few apologetic phone calls.
Hope you're all well,
HP
