Mavis is set to make history at Harlem's Apollo Theater this May. Nearly 50 years after first taking the stage at the storied venue with the Staple Singers, she will perform songs from We'll Never Turn Back (April 24; Anti- Records) on May 14 and 15, 2007.

She'll be joined exclusively for these dates by the same musicians who play on the CD: the original SNCC Freedom Singers, drummer extraordinaire Jim Keltner and the new album's producer/guitarist Ry Cooder. Click here for details.

We'll Never Turn Back combines raw, emotional, contemporized versions of some of the freedom songs that provided the soundtrack to the civil rights movement of the 1950s and 1960s, along with other traditional songs, and new originals written by Mavis and Ry.
