Monday was my birthday & what a surprise it was that Jonathan actually took me to
Melting Pot! I've wanted to go for a long time, but he kept saying he didn't want to drive so far & spend a fortune to dip some bread in some cheese haha! As for the distance, we went to Towson (Maryland), which is about an hour & a half away. Turns out they've got a new one in Harrisburg (PA), which is only about 45 minutes away, but it was booked solid that night.
The menu is really confusing, but our waitress was helpful in explaining everything. You've got to pick the grouping of meat, then the cheese, a salad & a cooking style. You can't just pick something off the menu, it's all customized & there are lots of choices! I found
this website which will give you an idea of what you get to pick from!
We ordered the entree for two, which started off with apples, veggies (broccoli, culliflower, carot & celery) & assorted bread chunks to dip into the cheese we chose - Wisconsin Trio Cheese Fondue which was
Creamy Fontina and Butterkäse, as well as Buttermilk Bleu Cheese with white wine, fresh scallions and a hint of sherry. Yum!
We both opted for the Caesar salad, which was delicious!
For our meat, we got the Signature Selection , which was choice tenderloin, shrimp, teriyaki-marinated choice sirloin, boneless breast of chicken and fresh fish fillet. Since I'm not into seafood, we swapped out the fresh fish for double tenderloin & Jonathan was okay keeping the shrimp. Along with the meat, they bring out chunks of red skinned potatoes, broccoli & mushroom caps.
For the cooking style, we went with Coq au Vin Fondue. "Our interpretation of the cooking style favored in the French countryside. It combines the flavors of fresh herbs, mushrooms, garlic, imported spices and a burgundy wine." This was INCREDIBLE! The meat comes out raw & you place it on a skewer to stick in the pot of this stuff to cook it, about 2 minutes for the meat & much longer for the veggies.
Unfortunatley, we were way too full for dessert. If we were, I wanted to get "Chocolate S'mores
- Milk chocolate topped with marshmallow cream, flambéed and garnished with crushed graham crackers. Also includes graham crackers for dipping." What do you get to dip in this?
Fresh strawberries, bananas, pineapple, cheesecake, tasty marshmallows, pound cake and brownies! Oh my! Seriously, though, I was soooo full! Although you don't eat much really, especially compared to a "regular" dinner, you eat it so slowly that it's really filling. We were there for about 2 hours, so you can imagine how long it would take to eat all 4 courses!
Melting Pot was so awesome & a lot of fun! I'm glad Jonathan decided to take me there & he admitted that he really enjoyed it as well. I'd recommend it to anyone with some time, money & no small children
