Minutes for the LGBT council meeting.

Committee positions:

Paul and Fay were voted in as joint vice president, Tom as bisexual representative, Mark as secretary, Jade as 2^nd open place officer and Krys as events officer. The positions still available are students with disabilities officer and international/ anti-racism officer, also with a view of creating new positions, e.g. lesbian/ sports officer.

The websites:

Paul and Fay have created a very good & more informative new website. The address is www.mmulgbt.50megs.com. The content of the MMSU LGBT webpage has now been changed to include the links to the new website and myspace. We are also in the process of creating a facebook profile.

Newsletter:

A news letter was sent to members who have provided e-mails, and we aim to send these out more regularly.

Meeting up with the other universities LGBT:

We hope to arrange a meeting with the other universities LGBT committee to discuss possible joint future events and student pride. The Salford GRO seems keen to meet up and were awaiting a reply from the Manchester Uni president. We will send out another e-mail, also informing of our future events.

New member's recruitment drive:

There are still some posters left which we can put our contact details on. A stall in the students union is a good idea- possibly over a week long; here we can advertise events and other organisations e.g. LGF and bars & clubs. We could possibly advertise in the MMU Student Pulp magazine.

This Thursday's Indian meal:

Meeting at 7.00pm inside the Students Union. Mikey, Gemma, Mark & Alan are unable to attend, however the rest of the committee are free to attend. Mikey will again e-mail to remind members.

Ideas for future events:

• A bar crawl, which could possibly be held on a Thursday in late February- early March. We could perhaps sell t-shirts in a traffic lights style, and there is a possibility the bars could fund this. We will approach up to five bars to get involved e.g. students union, bar baa, coyotes & essential.
• Mikey researched and found a bus company offering £19.99 travel and entrance to Alton Towers.
• We feel Amsterdam would be a very hard trip to organise, however we will continue to research. A new idea is to go on a booze cruise over to Amsterdam.
• We could possibly hold an end of year ball.

Student Pride:

The Manchester student pride weekend will take place on the 2^nd or 9^th June. Money needs to be raised for this through fundraising club nights and sponsorships from the council and trade unions. The next meeting for this is possibly at the beginning of February.

Accounts:

Our finance is in the minus figures; however this doesn't seem to include the students union finance contribution of over £100. Baa bar never cashed the £50 cheque for reserving its premises for the Christmas party.

Agenda for the next meeting:

• Arranging potential meeting with Man and Salford uni's LGBT committee.
• The new member's recruitment drive.
• Discuss the success of the previous event- the Indian meal.
• Further discuss the bar crawl event.
• Possible advertising in the Student Pulp magazine.
