Wally, clearly this issue is of great importance for all artists, audience and commercial concerns alike
For me the way forward to address these issues would be Global/internet Performer Rights Society type origination to Police the net, clearly law and regulation will also be necessary given the suspect characters that wholesale pirate legitimate music.
There seems a massive divide between the legitimate on-line suppliers of downloadable music who in my opinion are over profiteering from this new digital age and the convenience of instant availability.
It is a sad facet of human nature that generally people will generally not pay for something that they can obtain for little or nothing what ever the morality and of the issue. I think we have all observed the relish in which major record company's have perused these illegal streaming sites, I personally believe there is balance to be struck between a artist receiving just reward for there work and over profiteering by record companies.
In my opinion the starkness of either music being either available free or over priced, fans the fire of this descending situation. If music is to survive and continue to flourish as we know it, we need to look long and hard at this dilemma. Music importance in our lifes should not be understated, both in a emotive sense and in terms of our culture heritage. It is indeed something worthy to defend, and if we do not deal with this issue, it may mean the end of new music; and the ability for artists to continue it's creative movement
Music to me is a gift and magic in our lifes and its development and longevity are in all our hands.
