Good Afternoon,
You may have heard it through the grapevine that Groove 101.7FM recently applied for its licence renewal for the next 5 year period and have been distraught to find that the Australian Communications and Media Authority have handed down the preliminary view to NOT renew the licence. We are in the process of trying to start up an effective campaign and petition to gather support from our listeners, friends and the youth of Perth as evidence to our case.
Groove FM has been operating since 2002, with the heartfelt support from volunteers and the community. We are now one of W.A's leading youth media organizations by providing a platform for young people to establish their careers in the media and radio industry. Groove FM has been a forerunning supporter of local music, DJ's and MC's since its inception. We are proud to have been one of the first stations support Perth artists such as Chen'elle, Natasha, Rachel Claudio, Nick Vautier, Yarra, Signal Drivers, Mind Electric and Pendulum, all of whom have now gone on to international success.
Groove FM is committed to training young people in a wide variety of broadcast-related activities, including management, administration, announcing, production and operations. The station also has a community liaison committee to ensure that its focus on issues such as education, employment, sexuality and health remains relevant to Perth's youth market. The station caters for the unmet needs of the youth population of Perth. It offers an unduplicated service with coverage spread throughout the entire Perth statistical division area - Yanchep to Mandurah.
The youth of Perth have the right to speak out and seek recognition for their social, political, environmental or economical influences and experiences. Groove FM talk programming focuses on many issues relevant and of concern to the youth community of Perth. We are adamant in drawing together key interest groups and organizations to educate, involve and entertain young people and provide them with the necessary voice to be heard in their community.
If you're able to write a brief letter of support to the station or reply to our petition below, you will be making a difference to seeing W.A's only youth community radio station continue to involve, inform and entertain the youth of Perth.
